Doing Things Differently, AGAIN!

Yes, people, it’s that time of year, again.

* As some of you may remember last year, I was trying my very best to get over an incredibly devastating breakup. And much like Forrest Gump, I woke up one morning and just decided to start running. And by running, I really just mean walking.

* For those of you who are new to this blog, and for those of you who never heard about my project called ‘Doing Things Differently™ here is a VERY quick overview chock-full of external links that will provide further information.

‘Once Upon A Time’ A Girl Named Meleah wanted to improve the ‘Quality Of Her Life’ so she started ‘Doing Things Differently™’. And then she noticed the ‘Little Changes’ she made every day had a huge impact on her life. And even though Meleah had a few ‘Setbacks’ she kept on forging ‘Ahead’.

Miraculously, Meleah completed 90 Days of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ and that’s when she was supposed to start Doing Things The Same. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Instead, Meleah rested on her laurels. She stopped exercising, she stopped eating healthy, and she stopped waking up early. She’s even been slacking with her writing.

Last week she decided that 2011 wasn’t going very well for her. She’s been sick and extremely depressed. And quite frankly, she’s had enough. So, she returned to doing what she know works best for her.

Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’ to take a brisk morning walk around the block, three times in a row, for five days in a row, for the first week, in a row. And she’s very proud of herself. However, Meleah did not wake up as early as she would have liked, and she had a few setbacks with respects to food. Because when you have an extensive list like this of foods to avoid, it’s pretty difficult to find things that she can eat. But, she’s not going to beat herself up about that. Instead, she’s going to forge ahead this week. Because as far as she’s concerned, every day is a new day, with endless possibilities. And besides, the first week is always kind of like a practice week.

So, who’s with me?

I’ve been part of a similar group on Facebook since January and it really has made me feel a lot more productive and healthy. Don’t worry about a couple of setbacks, just get on track and don’t beat yourself up about it. My personal motto for 2011 is “Going From Good To Great!” Go get it, girl!

  2. Thanks, Slyde.
I’m doing it more for mental reasons.
    🙂

  3. Thanks, Marty. Me too!

  4. My options are pretty limited!
    Lots of fish and chicken!

  5. Oh yay, Rachele! I’m psyched you’re DTD with me!

  6. Oh, yes. I like that one – A LOT!

  7. Of course, you can start DTD any time, any day!

  8. Ahahahahhahahhaha!

    Yes, Nicky….

Keep the Pajama Jeans. Lose the cookies!

  9. Oh I love that Motto, Brooke.
    Nice one!

Good luck! I am sure you will do an amazing job again. I hope it turns things around.

  11. Thanks, Anne! Me too!

Every day is a new day, and a new opportunity to do things differently. Life is full of start-overs.
Oh, and that is an impressive list of “do not eat” foods. At least I didn’t see bacon on it. 😉

I am doing my own version of this, too, as you know. Illness, a long winter and deep frustration totally derailed me. We can do it! We can do it!

  14. Yes WE can! You’re already doing GREAT MZ!

  16. Well Darlink, and I use that term lightly 😉 don’t be beating yourself up, hell life will do that for you much easier. I had NO idea you had such allergies to food and when I saw you breaking up last year and also having chocolate on your don’t eat list, you were totally f**ked. But just like the saying making lemonade out of lemons (please), I did notice that ice cream was not on the list. You see as long as you can still devour Gods Goodness of cold calories, then who needs any other men in your life, other then Ben and Jerry??

You go girl and walk when you can and not to worry about missing a day or getting up late. Just enjoy, because before you know it, your dust. And those poor people in Japan can tell you how true that is. Now I am going to down a pint of creamsicle in your honor, and yes I saw you are also allergic to orange, but there are many others you can enjoy, right???

  18. I live for Coffee flavored Ice Cream.
That is my *treat* – and sometimes, what I have for dinner!

To tell you the truth, I’ve started doing things differently so many times, that staying the same would be doing things differently. I am just so hard to reform. I hope you have better luck at it than I do. I’ll be coming by to see how you’re doing.

Well this is inspirational. Glad you’re back at it.

I played three on three hoops the other day and thought I was going to fall over after twenty minutes. I’m just feeling better oday, four days later. Time to shed some of the winter layers.

  22. Thanks Bud. It’s certainly NOT easy!

  23. Yes, definitely time to shed those winter layers!

Practice week?? Oh, I love that, that is great, you just make me laugh, and I always need a good laugh! Good Luck with your REAL first week!!! (LOL)

YAY! Doing Things Differently! I’m glad to see you’re picking yourself up and doing what’s good for you. Hope you’re feeling good and completely UNdepressed soon.

  26. Thanks Lucy!

  30. What a great idea to get you out of a rut! I’m just waiting for the weather to improve so I can get outside and do things… I’m very motivated as we have the best grown-up toys (ie boat, rv, etc. lol) and live in outdoorsmen’s paradise.

Soooo anxious for spring I am chomping at the bit. Come by, we’ll go boating! 🙂

  31. I wanted to, but I just don’t have the where-with-all to do things differently at the moment. Maybe once the weather gets warmer I might have a go.

Actually, that wasn’t a quote. It was a lesson I learned from my father that I posted about a long time ago. I try to remember it when I wonder which direction I should be moving in. I think everyone needs reminders and road signs. Sometimes, we just don’t pay attention when the sign says, “Caution: Bump ahead” until after we’re airborne. 🙂

  34. Wow your allergy list looks just like mine. I stopped reading mine after garlic.. because I am sorry, I cannot live without garlic! I am thinking about doing things differently. Mine would involve a LOT of throwing away of things… hmmm should I do it?

  35. I love doing things differently!

  41. I’m psyched for the nice weather Chelle B!
And I just might take you up on that offer.

  42. Sounds good, Babs! At least you can SEE again!

  43. Well, those are great words to live by!
