30 Days Of Photography | Day 19: Never

Day 19 - Never

It’s no secret that I’m afraid of bridges.

Driving over a bridge is just as terrifying as: rock climbing, or skydiving, or bungee jumping down the Empire State building. And while those things might be fabulous, if you’re a ‘Thrill Seeking’ kind of person, but I am just not built that way.

I am not only afraid the bridge will suddenly collapse, without warning, but I also imagine the ‘Worst Case Scenario’. Like what if my tire suddenly explodes, and I loose control of the car, and go careening off the side of the bridge, and drown a fiery death, and the only thing they find to identify my body are the serial numbers on my breast implants.

So, yeah.

Meleah + Bridges = NEVER

Breast implants? What was this post about again?

  2. Mariamichelle117 says:

I hyperventilate on them – not conducive to driving!

  3. Rock Chef says:

Hm, better not tell you about the 140 car pile up on a local bridge, then! Oops…

  4. Agent 54 says:

    Implants? Say it isn’t so.

  5. Bridges are the worst!

  6. It is so. I bought them for myself for my 30th birthday. Best decision I ever made.

  7. Ron says:

“Like what if my tire suddenly explodes, and I loose control of the car, and go careening off the side of the bridge, and drown a fiery death, and the only thing they find to identify my body are the serial numbers on my breast implants.”

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Meleah, you crack me the hell up! You’re hysterical!

But hey, I have to say that I TOO think of that whenever I go over a bridge in a car. It’s not the height that bothers me, it’s the fear that the car will go out of control and PLUNGE off the side.

    GREAT photo, girl!!!!
    X

  8. Ha ha ha ha! Serial numbers on my breast implants! Do they have serial numbers on them? hahaha! I’m the same as you with anything that involves heights.

  9. Cheryl P. says:

I totally understand your fear on this one. I don’t fear bridges but, I can see why people would.

  10. Ziva says:

I am so glad I don’t have your fear of bridges! I drive across so many bridges on my way to work, I’d never get there on time. The photo is great, Meleah, really interesting lines. 🙂

  11. Lucy says:

I can get over a bridge but I have been known to think of some not so great scenarios too, I feel for you. Oh, to add to your phobia but I hate when we get stuck on the bridge, I start to panic it can’t hold the weight and then I start to look to see how many semi-trucks are on the bridge and can I get out and walk and my husband is NO help he usually starts explaining the odds of surviving if all the cars go tumbling in the water and he just loves to add to my anxiety, yeah, not really sure how we managed to stay married so long 🙂

  12. shadowrun300 says:

I can see how a person would be afraid of bridges, but since I have to cross one every day, I try not to think about the “what-ifs”. Of course, the longer the bridge, the harder it is to block out those thoughts.
Your picture is way cool though!

  13. Lauren says:

That is an amazing shot. I’m surprised the camera isn’t shaking. And you shouldn’t be taking pictures of a bridge while the car is moving.

  14. Totally! It’s the fear of heights PLUS the fear of losing control of the car while ON the bridge!

    *shudder*

  15. Yes! They really have serial numbers! 🙂

  16. “I hate when we get stuck on the bridge, I start to panic it can’t hold the weight”

OMG, YES! I think that too and then freak out EVEN more!

  17. Oh I was NOT driving. I can’t drive over bridges myself. My friend Valerie was driving. I was just the terrified passenger!

  18. ReformingGeek says:

“….the serial number on your breast implants.” Hilarious! Unlike dufus, you didn’t lose me at “breast”. I am afraid of heights so I can understand the disinclination to go over some of these bridges!

  19. Jay of The Depp Effect says:

Ha! I’m not personally afraid of bridges, but I am a close companion of Worst Case Scenario. I won’t call WCS a ‘friend’ because it’s not. And I personally know people who are terrified of bridges, and they would say the same as you. Only not ‘Meleah’ but ‘insert name of other friends here’.

  20. Shawn Ohara says:

I think you are safe with the bridges over there. You may want to consult with us before coming to Quebec though.

  21. Cheryl says:

I always feel very sad that you and so many others are afraid of crossing bridges. There’s literally nowhere safe for you to travel with the exception of Africa, and I could be wrong about that. Isn’t one of the benefits of implants that you have your very own flotation devices 24/7?

  22. Cheryl says:

    Meleah DON’T READ THIS.

Shawn, our country’s entire infrastructure is collapsing and our bridges are some of the least safe places to be. It’s like playing a game of chicken every time I leave the house.

  23. mikewjattoomanymornings says:

“…and the only thing they find to identify my body are the serial numbers on my breast implants.”

Maybe you should post a photo of those in case any of us need to help the authorities figure out who you are.

Sorry, but if you’re going to make it that easy for me, I’m not even going to try to resist. 🙂

Nice photo and a better story, Meleah.

  24. mikewjattoomanymornings says:

    Huh?

  25. Jackal says:

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha gasp breathe inhale hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  26. Margaret says:

And this is exactly why I am forever grateful to you, because you went against EVERYTHING you believe in to see me. You went through Hell and back. You climbed the highest mountain, swam the deepest ocean, and crossed the longest bridge. If that ain’t love, I don’t know what is. XOXOXOXOX

  27. Nicky says:

OK, so there are at least 4 bridges between you and I… I think ATB will have to do the driving. 🙂

  28. mike says:

That’s still a kick ass bridge photo!

  29. Oh you would never make it here… tunnels and bridges with water surrounding it all! What a beautiful picture!!!!

  30. MalisaHargrove says:

“the only thing they find to identify my body are the serial numbers on my breast implants”…laughing my ass off. Not about your breasts, but about the mental image of your breast implants bobbing up and down in the water. So so funny! Sorry about your fear of bridges. My hunky son has the same fear. You two could have fun in the back seat! 🙂

  31. It’s so damn terrifying!

  32. I always think of the Worst Case Scenario!! And I always freak myself the hell out!

  33. Oh, great. Now I’m even MORE scared!

  34. This is why I never even go to NYC – which is literally 45 minutes away from my house. The only way to get there is via bridge/tunnel. NOT HAPPENING.

  35. I totally drove over the scariest bridge – ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH – just to meet YOU – my fabulous wife!

  36. “tunnels and bridges with water surrounding it all” — No thank you!

  37. I’m glad I made you laugh!

  38. Linda R. says:

That is a great bridge picture. You bravely sacrificed your own comfort and safety for this photo challenge. I’m not generally afraid of bridges, but there have been a few that made me hold my breath and pray we’d make it to the other side. Oh and no skydiving or bungee jumping for me either!!!
