Possible Once In A Lifetime Opportunity

Okay people.

I need you.

Desperately.

I have spent countless days going through four years worth of my own blog posts.  And while it’s been an interesting stroll down memory lane, I am trying to narrow it down to my ‘Top Ten’ Favorites. Why? Because I have been presented with an opportunity that’s too good to pass up. I can’t really discuss what, why, or how this opportunity landed in my lap because I am afraid of ‘Jinxing’ it. So let’s just say a friend of a friend, who knows somebody who knows somebody, might be able to open some doors for me. And they’ve requested a few writing samples. Specifically blog posts.

However, this is proving to be much more difficult than I expected. And here’s why. I have not been given any parameters. In fact, I have no idea what market I am supposed to be targeting. Basically? I’m going into this blindly.  But this is where YOU [my beloved readers] can HELP me.

Please?

I figured since you’ve been such a fantastic ‘audience’ I might as well call upon my family, friends, new, and long-time loyal readers to ‘VOTE’ on your favorite Momma Mia Mea Culpa blog-posts.

Yes?

[ I know. I am asking a lot of you.  I am practically giving ya’ll homework. ]

But, all you have to do is follow these three steps:

1.     Click on the titles below.

2.     Read the posts.

3.     Vote for your favorite one.

* Once you’ve made your decision, please cast your vote in the comments section of this post. That way I will be able to tally the votes easily.

Simple.

Right?

And the candidates are:

Clearly, I Have Nothing To Wear

An Open Letter To The New Jersey Turnpike

My Daddy And The Spider

Public Service Announcement – TMI Style

My Grandmother Manga, A True Love Story

Scrubs: The Totally Super Awesome Television Show

The Black Out

How I Became A Reluctant Customer Service Representative

Friendships – When Losing One Hurts Like Hell

[I am not seriously expecting all of you to read all of those blog posts. But, can ya’ll at least TRY and read two of them before casting a vote?]

Oh yeah, one more thing. If there is a particular blog post you remember reading and enjoyed that is NOT on the list above? Please feel free to speak up and mention it in the comments.

Thank you all – in advance, and so very much – from the bottom of my heart!

Ok. Mel, I accept the challenge. I am familiar with a few (NJ Turnpike, Dad & the Spider) but you've tossed out a few jewels that I need time to read. My question is, without revealing the opportunity and jinxing the deal, can you tell us what kind of writing style you think will help the most? Some are very funny, some are very revealing (hell, a lot are revealing), some are poignant (20 point scrabble word), some are downright inciteful. I want to help out your cause, but you need to remember your audience. Not everyone may appreciate your love for the NJ toll road authority (I did) I want to give you my best opinion/input. Will try to weigh in later today with my opinion FWIW. Good luck and may the best story win!!!

P.S. – Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you…

  2. Jaffer says:

Oh dang ! This is hard ! Ok ok … For the above, I have four most favourite posts – one that makes me weep, one that makes me laugh, one that really makes my day and one … well … makes me glad I am not you.

So among them, my most favouritest of all is:

    “My Daddy And The Spider”

  3. Ezekiel says:

I'm so pleased 'My Daddy And The Spider' was an option! I thought of it straight away. It always makes me laugh. 🙂

    Good luck with your opportunity!

  4. Lucy says:

My top three: Number 1: My Grandmother Manga (this brought me to tears, loved it) Number 2: My Daddy and the Spider (Comedy and touching) Number 3: Public Service Announcement (too funny) and a close tie to Number 3: Friendships: When losing one Hurts Like Hell (touching and can relate)
Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you!!!!!

  5. cmk says:

I can't just go with one, but I think you should go with posts that show a different style with each. This will give whoever (whomever?) is making the 'decision' a good cross-section of what you can do. Anyway, here are my choices:

1-My Grandmother Manga: So very poignant–a very great, loving tribute. Brought tears to the eye.
2-My Daddy and the Spider: Burst out laughing funny!
3-An Open Letter To The New Jersey Turnpike: Funny! But it also shows a different style from the rest of your posts.
4-Public Service Announcement–TMI Style: Just too, too funny for words. This shows how truly open and honest you are.

You know, my dear, that all of the good thoughts I can muster are being sent out to the Powers-That-Be–I hope with all my heart that things work out for you! Love you, sweetie! xoxoxo

  6. Ron says:

First, CONGRATS on whatever this new opportunity is – I'm so excited for you!!!!

    Ok, I chose three.

    My Daddy And The Spider

Friendships – When Losing One Feels Like Hell

Public Service Announcement – TMI Style

Most of these I haven't ever read before, so it was great reading posts from your archives.

I think these three give a nice diversity in topics and also your writing.

Good luck, girl! Be sure and keep us posted!

    X

  7. You and I are BOTH in the dark.

That's why I chose such a wide range of writing styles.

I have NO IDEA what 'they' want – exactly.

    Thus, the varied topics ect.!

  8. Thanks Jaffer!!

    You. Rock.

    🙂

  9. Yippeee! Thanks you!

    🙂

  10. Aw. Lucy, thank you so much for investing that kind of time.

Im so happy we *met* and have become such good friends!

    Hooray for the internet!

  11. I love you Christine! Thank you for your insight and your votes.

I am definitely going to send out 'various' samples that will showcase my

different writing styles. I just wanted to make sure I am on the right

    track.

    xoxoxo

  12. Thank you so much Ronnie!~

    You, rule.

  13. Nicky says:

Wow. This is a tough one. I read them all and they are all fantastic. I'm going to don my “Marketing Professional” hat and tell you which ones would impress me if I was looking to hire you. (For what it is worth, I have hired and fired in my career and looked over a TON of resumés.)

    1) My Grandmother Manga, A True Love Story – it is beautifully written, moving, emotional and sincere. It demonstrates your loving nature, empathy and, professionally speaking, ability to communicate your story in a way that touches your readers.

    2) Public Service Announcement – TMI Style – I'm still laughing!! A brilliant example of your humour, clever bathroom humour that's not “toilet humour”, if that makes sense.

    3) Breast Implants, Augmentation Nation – a difficult subject, you were honest, open and extremely clear. It had a very different “tone” than the others and shows your versatility, as well as your ability to be “informative”.

Now, I don't mean to criticize, but I noticed a couple of typos. When I'm reading blogs, I don't mind them at all and have been known to commit a few whoppers in my own posts/comments, but when I'm going over resumés, I'm an absolute terror about typos. So, my suggestion is that you go over them again, ask others to as well, until you're 100% there are no errors.

*removes professional pain in the ass hat*

Squee! I can't wait to hear more about this and you KNOW I'm pulling for you!! Good luck hon!! 🙂

  14. I cannot even being to thank you enough, Nicky! You are SOFA KING awesome.

Thank you SO MUCH for investing that much of your time. Really.

And thank you even more, for offering up such wonderful suggestions to me.

I am truly lucky to know you, my friend.

Oh, and I definitely have to clean these up by editing them for typos and

    grammar issues.

    xoxoxoxo

  15. For me, it's a toss between My Daddy and the spider and An open letter to the New Jersey turnpike and I had to really flip a coin to pick one. It was heads and My Daddy and the spider it is for me 😀

  16. moooooog35 says:

Always been a fan of the NJ Turnpike one.

Also, please send that person my way. Thanks in advance. We can tour the world together on book signing tours and have lots of sex and stuff.

    I see this as a win-win.

  17. agg79 says:

Ok. Sorry to take so long (I'm a slow reader). Had to go back and read each one with a careful eye. It was kinda hard. Each story is another peek into Meleah's life/head and I can honestly say, nothing is ever boring or mundane in Meleah's world. It is interesting to read these stories side-by-side so you can compare your writing styles over the years. In some ways you've become funnier, more eloquent, and a bit loquacious (ok, I'm bringing out the big words now). You've shared a part of yourself that not many other people would have the nerve or skill to do. Thanks for sharing your journey with the rest of us. Each story is special and stands on its own, but as they said in the Highlander: There can be only one.

Survey Says: My Daddy and The Spider.

  18. geechee_girl says:

I have to pick just ONE? Jeez Melz. 🙂 I choose – ALL.

  19. Aw. Thanks Leslie.
I will eventually have to send 10-20 submissions.
But, Im going to start with the ones that get the most votes!

  20. BobG says:

I quite liked “The Black Out”.

  21. Marty Wombacher says:

I can't wait to hear about this opportunity, Meleah! I cast my vote for, “My Grandmother Manga, A True Love Story.” A great story and piece of writing. Good luck with whatever it is you're submitting for!

  22. This would be my choice I think. It’s beautiful 🙂

My Grandmother Manga, And A True Love Story

  23. Thank you so much Babs! That one’s been getting a lot of votes!
    🙂

  24. I love the boob job post. I think it is honest and very touching and something a lot of people can relate to. If a person has some feature that makes them unhappy with themselves, for God sakes, get it fixed. Life is too short to be unhappy or apologetic about a feature than can be changed.

  25. Thanks Nick! That's one way to narrow it down!

  26. She would LOVE that!

And I think one day she MIGHT really take you up on that offer!

    Thanks for the vote!

  27. Oh Agg! Your comment made my day. MADE.MY.DAY.

And thank for reading all of them. You're a trooper.

    Your vote rocks.

  28. I really like that one too!

    Thanks Bob G!

    🙂

  29. Oh yay! Thanks Marty!

    🙂

  30. Thank you, Linda.

I wasn't even ever going to post that one.

    I'm glad that I did.

  31. XFACTOR says:

My Daddy And My Blood Work would be a shoe in just for the priceless pictures alone. That being said I am all in for NJ TURNPIKE

  32. Selma says:

I vote for the story on your Grandmother Manga. It is my absolute favourite. I am very excited about where this could all lead!

  33. Oh you probably know me well enough to know I LOVED the Vicks on the Ass post… HANDS DOWN. But I loved reading a few of the others too. Oh and thank HEAVEN it is OUT in the OPEN now… I wanted to ask if you had a boob job for SO LONG… you look AMAZING!

  34. YAY! Selma! You’re back!
I love you woman. I’ve missed you A LOT.
Thanks for your vote. It means so much to me.

  35. Ahahahahha, Katherine!
You can feel free to ask me ANY question, ANY time!
And now you even know WHY I have a boob-job.
    🙂

    Welcome back from Vegas!

  36. Anonymous says:

My Grandmother Manga, And A True Love Story and My daddy and the spider get my votes.

  37. oneshotbeyond says:

I wish I was “qualified” but I’m not. What I can help with is this…anything you pick will be great! All of your writings are written from your experiences with heartfelt explosion & are utterly entertaining. Good Luck! 🙂

  38. Thanks Michelle. Hope al is well for you?

  39. Aw. Heather, that was sweet of you to say!

  40. I enjoyed An Open Letter to the New Jersey Turnpike. I guess a lot of it depends on whether they are looking for funny or serious. If you are looking for serious, I would recommend My Grandmother Manga, A True Love Story.

  41. Thanks Small Town. Im not sure WHAT they are looking for!
    That’s what’s so vexing!
Maybe I will send one funny, one serious, one sad, one interview ect…?

  42. Teeni says:

I absolutely love the daddy and spider story. It has such great buildup! But you should definitely include a couple of these because they are different, some serious, some funny, and some just insightful. You could show them a range of your styles. 🙂 Good luck with this and keep us posted!

  43. Thanks Teeni!

“My Daddy & The Spider” is tied w “My Grandmother Manga, A True Love Story”

Im probably going to send BOTH!

  44. Jaffer says:

I blame you for having such a lovely family and writing beautiful posts – and then making us choose !

  45. Brian Dawson58 says:

I’m likin’ , “Clearly, I Have Nothing To Wear”… Ur gift for making commonplace topics so humorous… is clever… B-Dawg.. Woof Woof…

  46. Ahahahah! Yeah, Im terrible like that!

  47. Thank you, B-Dawg!
And I was worried you weren’t gunna vote.
I think that one might be good for a woman’s magazine – yes?

  48. wwdiana says:

Public Service Announcement TMI Style and Clearly I have nothing to wear are my top two.
    Good Luck to you !
