Doing Things Differently™ – My Week In Review [Part Twelve]

[Week 12: April 19th – 25th]

* For those of you who are NEW to ‘Doing Things Differently™’ you can find out HOW and WHY ‘Doing Things Different’ began simply by clicking HERE. *

‘Once Upon A Time’ A Girl Named Meleah wanted to improve the ‘Quality Of Her Life’ so she started ‘Doing Things Differently™’. And then she noticed the ‘Little Changes’ she made every day had a huge impact on her life. And even though Meleah had a few ‘Setbacks’ she kept on forging ‘Ahead’.

After completing ‘The First Four Weeks’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ Meleah stepped up her game by taking things to the ‘Next Level’.  She momentarily took a break to ‘Visit With An Old Friend’ but she continued ‘Doing Things Differently™’ even after things became slightly ‘Boring.’

Meleah completed ‘The Second Four Weeks’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ but she felt like things were becoming slightly ‘Mundane’. So, she started ‘Doing Things Differently™’ with a little more Intensity. And then she got Injured.

Onward.

Upon ‘Internet Orders’ [via comments on this Blog/Facebook, coupled with ‘Non-Negotiable Statements’ from her family members and her friends] Meleah took ‘One Week Off’ from ‘Doing Things Differently’.

And Meleah found herself quite depressed. Especially since she planned on starting ‘Day One’ of ‘Doing Things The Same’ by now.

Meleah thought she could almost feel the return of  ‘Doughy-Softness’ with respects to her ‘Tiny Physic’. And it was the very same ‘Doughy-Softness’ she’s been trying to ‘Battle’ since ‘Day One’ of ‘DTD’. But then Meleah remembered she is ‘Crazy’ and how a ‘Temporary Seven Day Break’ could not possibly ‘Undo’ the previous ‘Eleven Consecutive Weeks’ of ‘Intensive Training’.  [Unless, of course, she spent those seven days stuffing her face with ‘Junk Food’. Which she totally did.]

Meleah also realized that she wouldn’t  ‘Properly Heal’ unless she actually ‘Rested’.

So…

Instead of ‘Doing Things Differently’?

She spent the ‘Whole Week’: icing her legs, sleeping, watching television, playing ‘Bejeweled Blitz’ reading books, writing new chapters and entertaining ideas for her book, blogging, facebooking, and of course, she did a lot of laughing with her friends.

However.

Even though Meleah could not put on her ‘Outfit’ nor could she go ‘Outside’ she continued pushing herself and tried to sustain ‘Doing Things Differently’ by doing 100 ‘Stomach-Crunches’ and 50 ‘Sit-Ups’.

Every. Single. Day.

[For the 8th Week In. A. Row.]

Now.

As much as Meleah LOATHES going to the doctor’s, she really had no other choice but to schedule an appointment with her ‘Primary Care Physician.’ Because the pain she was suffering did NOT ‘Go Away’ on it’s own. In fact the ‘Excruciating Painful Shin Splints’ and the ‘Mysterious Lumps’ seemed to worsen.

Any by ‘Mysterious Lumps’ she really means her ‘Right Shin’ was covered in what looked like ‘Swollen Knuckles’ that ‘Protruded’ directly off of the Bone. You could have easily confused her Shin with a ‘Spinal Cord’ belonging to a really skinny person.

So, Meleah begrudgingly showed up at her doctor’s office late Friday afternoon.

And after just ‘One Glance’ he immediately sent her for an ‘Ultrasound’.

Of course Meleah launched into ‘Full-Fledged Panic Mode’ seconds after her doctor suggested the problem might be caused by ‘Blood Clots’.

But more on THAT – another day, and in another blog post.

Meleah will tell you that she has to wait until Wednesday to find out ‘The Results’ from ‘The Tests’. And, in the meantime, she refuses to ‘Speculate’ about ‘Possible Medical Conditions’ anymore than she already has.

She has also been ‘Ordered’ to stop ‘Doing Things Differently’ for at least ‘One More Week’. And she has to keep her leg ‘Tightly Wrapped’ after applying ‘Special Medicated Patches’ ‘Every Twelve Hours’ to her ‘Right Shin’.

In closing, Meleah does have some POSITIVE news.

On Saturday night Meleah went BOWLING for the FIRST TIME EVER with her father, her mother, and her brother. And, she will be bringing you a HAPPY blog post chock filled with ‘Photos’ and ‘Videos’ staring ‘Yours Truly’!

  1. Nicky says:

Ok, on the bright side, resting is doing things differently from the other things you did differently that were becoming doing things the same. So you are still doing things differently by incorporating some of the same things with different things. See, it's just a question of not thinking the same but thinking differently about things that used to be different but now are the same.

    It's just that simple. 🙂

  2. BK says:

Good to hear that Meleah was taking the 'orders' from the Internet seriously and taking a break from DTD. However, I thought that Meleah was still DTD since those things were not usually done by Meleah. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for good news from Meleah on Wednesday. 🙂

  3. agg79 says:

I am glad to hear you finally listened to your hord and got some genuine medical advice (verses bra recommendations and golf tips). You gotta check these things out and not ignore the warning signs. I wouldn't sweat the prognosis, docs always want to run all sorts of tests and procedures to try and figure out what is going on.

In the meantime, keep off your feet and rest.

You'll like bowling. It's just like golf, only with bigger balls. And lots more beer.

  4. peedee says:

YOU missy, really need to take care of yourself. ::finger shaking:: But it appears your being forced to which is a good thing. DTD will be there when you're healthy again. Hope you feel better soon!!

  5. moooooog35 says:

This doesn't have jack to do with this post because it was long and has no pictures and I lose interest really really quickly (no offense)…

    ..BUT..

My kids watch a show called 'Imagination Movers' which makes me want to gouge my eyes out and box my own ears but there's a girl on there WHO LOOKS LIKE YOU:

    http://www.imaginationmovers.com/uploads_big/mo

So I'm wondering if you moonlight and, if you do and this is you, would you PLEASE KILL THESE GUYS. Thanks in advance.

  6. Anne says:

Oh my goodness, that sounds serious. I am glad to hear that you took everyone's advice and went to the doctor. I hope your leg is feeling better soon and you can get back to doing things the same as doing thing differently.

  7. Dear Meleah,
You were very right to go to the doctor. And you are extremely very right not to “guess in advance” about the tests. All that worry is no help at all. Your thinking is very good in this.

I send you encouragement!! And not just that but a so-appropriate “Honest Scrap” award. It is for fighting the good fight and being up front about it. It's to honor you, you may pass it on as you see fit.

Thanks for all the leadership by example, and
I'll be checking back to see how you are doing.

    Sincerely,
    Ann T.

  8. RonnieC says:

Oh, girl…you and I are soooo much alike…”As much as Meleah LOATHES going to the doctor’s.” But, I'm so glad you went and checked it out. And you're right ” in the meantime, she refuses to ‘Speculate’ about ‘Possible Medical Conditions’ anymore than she already has.” Good for you.

I agree with what Nicky shared, you are still doing things differently, by incorporating some of the same things with different things.

Looking forward to reading you next post on going bowling with your family. I bet it was FUN!

Have a grrrreat Monday, my Libra friend!

    X

  9. Marty Wombacher says:

Sorry to hear about the bad week, Meleah, please keep us updated and let us know what happens. I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.

  10. I like the way you think!
And, I was able to DTD when I went bowling for the 1st time ever.
    So that counts!

  11. Thank you so much for your support.
And, I guess LISTENING to doctors orders and internet advice IS still DTD
because usually Meleah does NOT listen to anyone!

  12. Oh Agg. You're the best.

I think I am still DTD by actually LISTENING to my doctor
and by following Doctors Orders! That's new for me.

I did enjoy bowling – but OMG I am TERRIBLE at it.
I have a video coming soon of me 'In Action' while bowling!

  13. Thanks Love.
    I haven't been walking. I haven't been over-doing anything.
BUT…I am still DTD in other ways, which makes me feel better!
    xoxoxoxo

  14. Oh Moog!
    You crack me up.
I promise that is NOT me.
But, if it was, I would gladly kill them for you.

  15. Thank you!
    I hope so too!

  16. I am definitely DTD by NOT panicking.
And, I am definitely DTD by NOT allowing my imagination to run wild!

And thank you SO MUCH for the award. You are a DEAR to think of me.
Thanks for your encouragement and support!

  17. Ronnie, you and I are so alike!
And it makes me feel better knowing someone out here is just as crazy as I
am! The Bowling Video will be posted by Wednesday!
    xoxo

  18. Thanks Marty. You rock.

  19. Jennifer is so glad that Meleah went to the doctor to check on the 'mysterious lumps'. Because Jennifer loves Meleah with all her heart, Jennifer has decided that she and hopefully the other members of Tribalblogs.com will take over 'Doing Things Differently' for her for the following week. And by that Jennifer means that she hopes others will write a post in the DTD format, to show Meleah how much we care about her.

  20. Chuck says:

Here is what I think. Those lumps are alien invaders from the planet misprcch. You must cut them out ASAP !! OR…. listen to your doctor. For real, I am sending best wishes/loves your way !!

  21. buggys says:

It's good that you're DTD and listening to your Doctor. It's easier to listen when you really don't know what's going on, I think. I'm in agreement with moooooog on the Imagination Movers!

  22. “Icing” your legs? The first question that popped into my head was chocolate or vanilla? Until I read the rest of the post that is.

Hope the leg is feeling better soon. I know you'll end up just fine. The bumps were a pretty good sign that things were not right and going to the doctor was the best thing to do. I'll be expecting a Facebook update as soon as you get the word on the ultrasound.

  23. livintheblues says:

me thinks maybe I should be like Meleah and actually listen to the doctor..that would really be DTD for me…anyway fingers crossed for the test results..:)

  24. Selma says:

I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. Doctors love to scare us, don't they? I saw your bowling video and it is hilarious. Please keep us posted about the results of the tests.

  25. sheila says:

WOW – It's scary waiting around for results. I'm sure everything will be fine. I wonder if you could do something like bike riding – much less pressure on your shins. I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

  26. BK says:

Glad that Meleah was DTD by listening to someone for a change and hopefully with the much needed rest, Meleah will be up and walking around soon.

  27. Jules says:

I hope you get good news from the doc!

Can't wait to read the bowling post!!

  28. OMG!!!
    *tears*

That would make Meleah SOFA KING happy you have no idea!

Meleah LOVES Jennifer with all her heart too!

  29. Really? That's what I look like?

Well, I will be posting a NEW video of me on Wednesday.
And now that my bangs are growing out?
Maybe I wont be confused as her anymore!!

    *fingers crossed*

  30. You know I will have a Facebook Status Update the second I hear anything
from the doctor. Thank you iDaddy2.0!

  31. Meleah IS listening to the doctor!
And yes, that is TOTALLY Doing Things Differently!
    xoxoox

  32. I will keep you updated.
Oh, and that video is NOTHING compared to what's coming!
    I love you Selma!
    xoxoxo

  33. Thanks for the good thoughts. I hate waiting.

I will ask my doctor if bike riding is okay.
    Great idea!

  34. It will be live on Wednesday. If I can wait that long!

  35. livintheblues says:

does just thinking about it but not actually doing it count..:))))

  36. livintheblues says:

I kinda figured that but it didn't hurt to ask..:)

  37. silverneurotic says:

Ugh, I really hope that the tests come back good. Sending some positive vibes your way.

  38. Sending positive energy your way! Take care.

  39. Gina says:

Hey Mel. First off let me say that the admiration I have for you to keep on doing things differently regardless of any obstacles that may come your way is unable to be put into words. Most people go through their lives not doing anything to actively change. And for those that do put some effort in face many road blocks. But it's in the road blocks that test our character and we get to see what we're really made of. This is where, in the end, the most reward will come. Not to mention that it is the greatest example to set for the people in our lives whom we love. You have been faced with many obstacles from what I have read here and you keep going, living your life, loving and having fun. And best of all, you put it all right here for us to be inspired and encouraged by your action. Thank you for allowing me to be a witness to your strength and courage. You can never go wrong doing the right thing.

I would also like to say thank you for the most recent comment you left on my blog. I would have e-mailed you about this but I couldn't find an address here. I have no idea what prompted you to come back and leave THAT particular simple comment, but it came at exactly the right time and it kind of gave me goosebumps because of what I have been going through in my own mind as of late. In particular, yesterday morning. Needless to say as silly as it may sound, it was the most divine thing that has happened to me in quite some time. So thank you for listening and acting on your inner promptings. It can make all the difference in the world.

I love you much soul sister. XOXOXOXO

Sorry for the much too mushy post, but I was moved to do so. You are in my thoughts and I send you nothing but love and good healing energy.

  40. slyde says:

am i the only one who sees your sidebar now down the center of the page so i can read anything? ARGH! Thats driving me batty!

  41. Ms. Freeman says:

What!!!! Girl I sure hope it's nothing more than maybe some calcium build up. But, I'm sure after 12 weeks you have got to be bikini suit ready!!! I'm almost there, not quite yet. 🙂

  42. Oh Gina! I love you too Soul Sister. I have tears in my eyes right now from your comment! And no, it's NOT just because I have a raging case of PMS. You are amazing.

  43. I haven't heard anyone else say that. Hmmm…. what Internet browser are you using?
