My Stay-Cation

Well people….it’s that time of year!

My parents have left for a glorious cruise – which means I FINALLY have the house to myself.

For SEVEN whole days.

In. A. Row.

And that’s quite a luxury for me.

Therefore, I am going to take FULL ADVANTAGE of this time to relax.

I plan on spending the next week: reading, being outside, working on my tan, hanging with my friends, swimming, golfing, barbecuing, drinking exotic beverages, soaking in the jacuzzi, sleeping in, and pretending that I am on vacation.

Of course, I still have my 15 year old son to take care of, along with a 91 year old grandfather. So there will be lots of cooking and food shopping to do. And who knows, I might even try out some new recipes.

Unfortunately, during my ‘Stay-Cation’ I am probably not going to be doing very much blogging. However, please feel free to keep up with my ‘activities’ and updates, via my facebook profile!

Hopefully this week of R&R will do me some justice.

*So tell me people, if YOU had a week-long-vacation at home, what would YOU do with that kind of time?

    I love it….STAY-CATION!!!!

Yup, when I still lived at home I use to love when my parents went on vacation, and for the same reason you do…I had a whole house to myself. Well, my brother and I that is. But it was still great!

Have a wonderful time, Meleah! Enjoy you R&R!

    X

  2. Silverneurotic says:

Somehow my staycations never actually feel like vacations to me.

  3. Cheryl P. says:

To really pull off the Staycation you need to get in the spirit of it. First of all, you need to dress like a tourist. Totally different than you normally dress. Maybe a souvineer T-shirt with a beachy Club logo and put some white sunblock on your nose, and start wearing sunglasses propped up on your head. Oh, and for the next 7 days haul around a canvas beach bag with all your essentials in it. If you really want to rock the tourist look, replace the tote with a fanny pack but really that makes you look older than you are. Be sure to send pics of you looking all touristy

We’re having a day-long Staycation today. When its only a day, I do my nails, watch a movie I like, and make something delicious to eat. If I had a week, I’d probably try to paint my bathroom.

  5. Nicky says:

Enjoy your week off! Whenever I have a staycation, I end up ruining it by doing stuff around the house: painting, cleaning, fixing etc.  Now I make myself go someplace, even if it’s not far, just so I don’t spend my vacation doing housework!! I’m planning a week vacation for the end of June…got any plans for the 30th of June? 🙂

  6. Emergefit says:

You sick sick human being!!!  How dare you suggest I have ever taken time off.  CRUELL you are!!!

  7. Thomas C. says:

My awfice routinely calls or e-mails me to interrupt my traveling vacations, so I can only assume that if I took a staycation, they’d expect me to come in a few times.
    Stupid job.

  8. Enjoy your time without the parents!  At 15, I’m sure your son enjoys being with his friends, so you may not be seeing that much of him.  Grandpa will hopefully not trail around after you with advice all day and evening.  At his age, he needs naps!  Try and work in some R and R just for you!

I expect to see you on fb tomorrow for The Bachelorette even if you are staycation!  🙂  Don’t party too hard.

  10. Lyndadesordi says:

Have fun on your stay-cation!!!!! I need a stay-cation now after my mini vacation!!! But duty calls!!! back to work tomorrow!!! Love you!

  11. I hope you have a great Stay-Cation!

  12. Steph says:

Have fun!!  Sometimes staycations are the only way to go.  Flying anywhere these days is so stressful it almost cancels out the destination vacation relaxation…libation…meditation…somebody stop me! 🙂  By the way, I’m a huge fan of Giada at Home.  Have you ever watched that show?

  13. Anne says:

Unfortunately, staying at home is no type of vacation for me.  I can claim I am on vacation but the children have absolutely no respect for that.  They still expect to be waited on hand and foot.

  14. Ferd says:

Ooh! Parents are gone! Party at Meleah’s!!!
    😀

  15. HeSaidHisTelephoneNumberWas911 says:

On my schedule, a week off gets me 12 days off. Six days into a ‘staycation’ I’m stir crazy, ready to go back to work. Sounds like you’ve got yours well planned, here’s hoping it all that, and some.

  16. Roshan Menon says:

Your staycations are just like mine – without the son & the grandpa ofcourse. Ofcourse now I am going to be living alone starting tomorrow.

  17. Clean, paint, beach.  Clean, paint, beach.  Clean, paint beach.  Oh, I forgot… drink!

  18. Selma says:

Sounds fantastic. If I could have a Stay-Cation I’d eat a lot, sleep a lot and watch a lot of TV. Enjoy yourself, hon. You deserve it!

  19. cmk says:

After kicking the kids out*, my life is pretty much a staycation 24/7.  😉  Have a wonderful week!

*I didn’t REALLY kick the girls out and The Husband still needs me to do things around the house, so I guess this comment was useless. Nevermind.

  20. Lucy says:

We have done stay-cations many times and to make them feel more like a vacation I do less cooking, less cleaning and less wash.  We would PLAY more, go to the pool, read, and just overall relax.
Enjoy yourself and try to take it easy!

A.Whole.Week?  No such animal.  I’ve never seen one.  However, I can learn to live vicariously, so here’s what you should do…. The parents are gone and I’d have a PARTY!  Isn’t that what’s supposed to happen? (not that I ever got to have one… living vicariously here….) Take your Grandfather and son out and do something wild (Just make sure you have the bail money first… ‘kay?  I wouldn’t want you sitting in the slammer all week planning your jail break) Try at least ONE new thing NONE of you have ever done before… and I’ll even give you some ideas here…

June 13th is Weed Your Garden Day (Guess this depends on if you have a green thumb or a the black look of death to any green.  I myself have been glad that the Jolly Green Giant has never stopped by for tea)
June 14th is Flag Day, Pop Goes the Weasel Day AND World Juggling Day (Oportunities abound here! Just don’t forget to take pictures!)
June 15th is Fly A Kite Day and the Power of A Smile Day
June 16th is National Fudge Day!!!!
June 17th Eat Your Vegetables Day (Probably to make up for fudge day)
June 18th is International Picnic Day
June 19 Father’s Day, Garfield’s Birthday, the Tasmanian Devil’s Birthday, my daughter Erin’s Birthday and MY Birthday!  🙂

And lastly, I love your stories about your grandfather so I want to sit down with him this week with a recorder and like a meme ask him to telly you all the scrapes and adventures he got into when he was in elementary school, high school, his first job, his first kiss (it was in the back seat of a car, wasn’t it?). When he was a kid, did his family have a radio?  A car?  What was the first car he ever owned? Did his family use green stamps and what did they buy with them? What is his favorite decade for music?  Did he ever own a ‘zoot suit’? (I could keep going but you probably should let him come up for air) Oh and make him tell you all the embarrassing things his kids did when they were younger that he knew about but never told them he knew… because I know he’s kind like that.

As you can see, I need a life Meleah! I think I’ll put the days thing on my blog after my husband’s wit (or witless as the case may be)  🙂

  22. Jules says:

7 whole days?? I normally get bored after 1 day off. lol.  I guess for me I would find some interesting movies on Netflix instant, and probably play a lot of video games. I would bake a lot too, probably a couple of dinners that would require a well thought out plan and trip to the grocery store. At least one night I would order in so it would feel like room service 🙂

    Enjoy your 7-day stay-cation!

  23. I hope you enjoy your staycation and pseudo time off. Looking forward to the pics of your new tan. 😀

  24. Dr. Cynicism says:

    Enjoy the R & R!!!

  25. territerri says:

I would cook, clean house, do laundry, wash windows… in fact, that’s exactly what I AM doing this week!

  26. Linda R. says:

Well, when hubby travels (which I hope has ceased or at least slowed down for a while) I have plenty of alone days.  Time at home usually involves chores, projects, yard work, etc.  Oh, you meant without chores?  That would be another story, but I’d still rather have hubby home.  Have a great staycation!

  27. MomZombie says:

I’ve never had a successful staycation.  I’m incapable of getting into the holiday spirit when peeling paint and broken hinges are staring me in the face. The most we’ve done is pitch a tent in the yard and “pretend” we are camping.

  28. Anonymous says:

    alone?  soaking in the jacuzzi?

    i’ll be right there…

  29. HumorSmith says:

    Enjoy yourself my dear.

  30. Ziva says:

    I know I’m a little late, but I hope you’re having a wonderful stay-cation!

Muri has never been able to do a STAY-cation … she can’t detach from her “to-do” lists when she’s at home.  I seem to have caught the same malady since I retired, which is ridiculous … isn’t that supposed to be like a vacation.  And now that I’ve got a short term job, well, I’m going to be a loon.  We are going to Maui for 7 days for her birthday in July, which is my kind of Go-cation.  Enjoy your free time.

  33. Barbara says:

Hi Meleah!  Just catching up here.  How come I never see your updates on my Facebook page with all my other friends updates?  I am so sorry to hear about the car accident.  Enjoy your stay-ca!

  34. Anonymous says:

With that much time, I would be working on one of my many projects (fence, driveway, Mustang).  Sometimes staying home and doing nothing is the best kind of vacation.  Less stressful and easier on the pockebook.  Hope you get to work on the tan and spend lots of time in the jacuzzi.

  35. Anonymous says:

I often have stay cations as I have leave from work and can’t afford to go anywhere – considering my recent purchase that might be the case for the rest of the year as well! Lol

It’s great to have that time at home, relax and have fun and enjoy your own bed at the end of the day!
