Pre-Holiday-Post

My holiday weekend will kick off, just as soon as I get out of this office precisely @ 3pm. 3pm never seemed so far away. Until now! I currently feel much like a school kid in the classroom waiting for the glorious sound of the release bell to ring.

This morning, I was utterly amazed with the LACK of traffic. There was literally NO ONE on the NJTPK. I’ve never seen that highway that wide open. It was like a scene from the movie I Am Legend (which by the way was not that great). Just ask this dood.

There is practically no one in my office either, which means this day is going to drag on forever. Everything seems to be moving in Slow Motion. I swear, sometimes when I sit here it seems almost as if I am being punished. With No TV, Very Limited Internet Access, and No Phone, it’s exactly like being grounded.

Business has been so slow; I can’t even drown myself in paper work to make the time go faster. And since I have nothing else to do with my day, I find myself daydreaming about ‘what my life would be like’ if I was free from the shackles of corporate America and the confines of this cubical. And I gotta tell you. It would be awesome! Can you imagine what I could accomplish on a 6 month sabbatical? Dare I dream?

But, I digress.

I am really anticipating a wonderful Holiday weekend, full of writing, the company of good friends, Law & Order Marathons, and lots of sleeping!

(I’ve already begun the re-write of chapter one per my awesome writing buddy.)

And, I MIGHT consider the slightest possibility of signing up for that online dating site The Parents have been hounding me about. Because sometimes being really lonely is not totally super awesome.

What are your plans for this three day holiday weekend extravaganza?

    Enjoy your long weekend… Have a nice time… Cheers…

  4. Meleah says:

    Tree:
Iowa? What could possibly be in IOWA?

    Paisley:
I am, still really ‘On The Fence’ about that idea. While I am sick of being ALONE, I dont knwo if I am ready to take that sort if drastic measure?

    Arv:
    You too!!

  5. Lance says:

You do dare to dream Meleah! Dream big dreams!

I’m off to visit relatives this weekend, it will be nice to get away for a couple of days.

    Enjoy your long weekend!!

  6. Your office sounds like mine. I can actually here the guy in the fourth row of cubicles typing. It’s just that quiet in here. I only like it like this because the internet is much faster. What a great day to leave comments on my favorite blogs.

Have a great weekend. I’ll be trying to get the last of the sun and warm weather. I enjoy a L&O marathon too. But I hope to miss out on it by being out and about with the fam and some friends.

  7. Meleah says:

    Lance:
Oh I’ve been daydreamig all day.
Have fun on your little get away!

    Urban:
Yeah, I hope that I miss some of the Law & Order marathon because I am having FUN elsewhere, but if not, at least that’s a decent back up plan!

Its so quiet I can hear a pin drop in this place. 2.5 hours to go and counting!

(your blog post today made me chuckle!)

  8. terri says:

I know how you feel. I’m stuck at work until 5:00 and am now just counting the minutes until LUNCHTIME. The afternoon’s gonna drag. I know it is.

Going to be lazy this weekend. And go to the State Fair. Hope yours is great!

  9. Random Chick says:

My plans for the weekend are just to survive. The Hubby is taking off to go see a friend who just graduated from college (it only took him 15 years, d’oh!), and I’ll be with the kids…luckily my daughter has a sleep over tonight!

I hope to get some writing time in between naps and tantrums! ACK!!! I do love my children but Mommy will need a play date when Daddy gets home on Sunday night!

Hey, you should try Match.com. One of my close friends met her husband on that site. Maybe you might meet someone of quality? Who knows?

BTW, I’ll be sending you my notes on your Chapter 2 either tonight or tomorrow…depending on if I’m dead at the end of the day.

Have a WONDERFUL and RELAXING weekend. I’ll be thinking about you!!!!
    XOXOXOXO
    RC

    xxoo

    Random Chick:
    Oh YAY!
Im so excited to see what you have next in chapter TWO.
    🙂
I will have my notes for you on your chapter one by Sunday Night when you have your ‘MOMMY FREE TIME’ again!

You will survive inbetween naps and tantrums! Just drink heavily!

(15 years to gradute college. WOW. That sounds just like my sons father.)
    xxoo

  11. Well I’m with you there. I’m the only one in an entire section of my building. Just little ol me. I can’t complain though because I like the quiet, I like when no one comes into my cubicle, when no one asks me a question, I like when no one talks to me over the cube wall when I can’t hear them over my ipod and have to pause it to hear something meaningless to me, I like when no one calls me, when no one emails me, when no one sends me inter office mail. I like when I can sit back in my chair and put my feet up on my foot rest with no shoes on. I like this silence with only my ipod filling my ears with sweet musical goodness.

I live for the day before a holiday. I never take it off because I like this quiet time with myself. If I’m going to be stuck at work I’d like it to be silent. I get so much more done…so much more when I’m not bothered by “people” LOL! Yes, sometimes I wish I worked alone in a room where no one bothered me…although if I had that…I would probably complain and crave for someone to bother me. Hehe. I’m never satisfied. LOL

This Sunday I leave for a much needed Vacay! I’m counting the minutes!

  12. cmk says:

I plan on using the holiday to recover: C and her husband and six kids are on their way here as I write. Thank goodness K will be working–gives me time for myself! 😉

Have a good weekend, my friend.

  13. Meleah says:

    Jen R:
If my office was like THAT I wouldn’t mind it at all!

    CMK:
Wow. You will have your hands full for sure!

  14. Oh don’t be fooled…it’s just TODAY that it’s like this because of the holiday. I realized I didn’t make that clear LOL.

On all other days it is exactly how I descibed that I WOULDN’T want it to be like. 🙁

  15. moooooog35 says:

    My plans?

I may eat food and every once in the while do something. Not sure what yet.

    Wish me luck!

  16. Rogelio says:

Plans? get up late, specially on Monday… like at 6am or so will be fantastic 🙂

Plan to embark in a three day long music producing fest, maybe a promotional video if the muse bites hard enough. I’ll watch I Am Legend again tonight ha ha!

*Enjoy* your three day weekend Meleah.

  17. Natural says:

my momma wants me to drive around her around to stores..i might sit in the car. then she wants me to come over and help her clean her basement (she recognize the skills 😉 ). saturday it’s going to rain, that’s a day i’d like to spend in bed, uh hello?

i’ll be chilling. i’m not making any plans and hopefully no other plans will be made for me.

    later bahgator

  18. Meleah says:

    Jen R:
Still! One day is better than never!

    moooooog35:
oh I cannot wait for your weekend updates.

    Rog:
    Good luck with that!

    Valerie:
    I be chillin’ too!

  19. dawn says:

What can it hurt? sign up and see what happens… maybe your Mom & Dad are on to something good 🙂
    Have a great weekend!

  20. Hey Honey! Hope fully you will have a GREAT weekend! I’m on my way back tomorrow (sat) home. Trip was always too short! next year – 2 weeks! Open house! Have a great one! Having a drink in ur honor as I write!

  21. Claire says:

I get to watch more sweaty men running round on a field this Sunday, then I better get my arse into gear with this packing malarkey.

Have a most excellent time writing, you wouldn’t get that done if you had a pesky bloke around 🙂

  22. Beth says:

Not much here, inviting some friends over to watch a horror movie tomorrow night. Otherwise, preparing (or not) for Hurricane Gustov to possibly hit our area. Will probably be spending a lot of time watching the weather channel all weekend!

  23. Barbara says:

If you sign up for the dating site we should commiserate…or even start a blog for online daters that need to share what its like OUT THERE. I hope you do. Some dood is going to be so lucky to meet you…its just kissing all the damn frogs to get to the prince that sucks.

  24. AngryMan says:

Did you watch the alternate ending of I Am Legend? It fit much better w/the rest of the film.

  25. Meleah says:

    Dawn:
    Maybe! Maybe! Maybe.
At least it would be good blog material

    Oscar:
    Vacations are never long enough!

    Claire:
    Yeay. Sweaty Men.

    Beth:
    Yikes. Hurricanes are scary

    Barbara:
I think I am going to do it. If for nothing other than blog material? I don’t know.

    Angry Man:
No. I just saw the regular version. I LOVE Will Smith, but I did NOT like that movie very much.

  26. Selma says:

Have a lovely long weekend. Sadly, we miss out in Oz. Hope you get a lot of work done on your book.

  27. Roshan says:

Hope u have a great fun holiday weekend. I took an off this Saturday and will be working on Sunday 🙁

  28. WHAT?! The NJTPK was EMPTY? That’s creepy! And I agree with your review of I AM LEGEND…I didn’t understand the hype.

  29. Ricardo says:

I had no motivation what so ever on Friday to do anything yet it was very busy where I was. I wanted to scream! I had no traffic coming to work in the morning but in the afternoon going home it was hell!

I’m sick of work. I want to retire.

  30. hollydolly says:

i am not at all looking forward to being lonely, but i am looking forward to being alone. it’s much lonelier being alone when someone’s actually there. i wonder how his next wife will feel about that? 😉

  31. Are you really fed up being alone? You seem so busy.

  32. Loz says:

No holiday here Mel, but I hope yours was a good one 🙂

  33. I actually have tomorrow off-but I don’t really have any big plans. Sleeping in is a must though!

  34. Epiphany says:

I’ve spent most of this weekend in recovery from a very stressful last week. But hopefully it will have been well worth it.

Enjoy your Law and Order marathon. I’m always on the lookout for the NCIS marathons – they’re like catnip to me. 🙂

Here’s wishing you a very productive writing-weekend. xoxo

  35. Beer, BBQ , Beer, Football, Beer, Tanning. Beer.

  36. Hey how has the weekend been going so far? Good?
Tomorrow is Monday, but guess what, it WON’T be an ass dragging Monday! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I so don’t want this weekend to end, same goes for the summer too!)

  37. Meleah says:

    Selma:
I got a lot of sleeping done. Not so much writing

    Roshan:
Working on a Sunday? Thats just wrong

    Mrs Schmitty:
    It was very spookey!

    Ricardo:
That makes two of us. Id love to retire RIGHT NOW. Cant I just fall into a huge pile of money so that I can spend my days LIVING and NOT working?

    HollyDolly:
I love to be ALONE. But I am tired of being lonely.

    Jeremy:
I am tired of being SINGLE. But, yes, I am very busy.

    Loz:
Too bad you don’t have a holiday weekend!

    Silver:
    Hell Yes. Sleep Rules

    Epiphany:
Ive done NOTHING over this weekend but watch Law & Order, get my hair colored, do laundry and sleep I guess I really needed down time!

    Diva:
    Good Times. Good Times

    RMH:
I never want this weekend to be over. I am just now finally rested enough to take on writing and blogging…and its already Monday.

  38. Where do I go to sign up for the 6 month Sabatical?? 🙂

You are so right about traffic this weekend. (In the mornings anyway). Very strange. It seems as the gas prices may have stopped a lot of holliday travel?
Most folks I know stayed in town.

All I can say is, “Thank God I had Monday off!!” The end of summer is our busiest time at work.

ps… This will probably sound strange, but after traveling all over the midwest, I WANT an office job 😉

  39. Meleah says:

    Speedy:
When I find out how to get a 6 month sabbatical I will let you know!

    Diva always makes me laugh!

  40. dcr says:

Wow. I was thinking of a completely different type of traffic! LOL! You talked about the lack of traffic and I was thinking, EXACTLY, my blog hasn’t been getting much traffic either this weekend.

Then I realized you were talking about the old-fashioned kind of traffic. 😉

  41. Meleah says:

    DCR:
Oh my blog traffic was dead / down / slow all weekend too. But yeah, I was taking about good ole fashion regular rush hour traffic.

  42. I totally love the days that no one is on the road on the way to work! Of course, being in the office with no one here totally drags, but that’s when the crazies come out to play with the phone calls…

  43. Meleah says:

    CourtneyRyan:
I please. “No Traffic” days are The Best.
But once I left to go home? = Total Nightmare.

Ha! Im glad I dont have a phone at my desk~~
