Doing Things Differently – My Week In Review [Part Sixteen]

[Week 16: May 17th– 23th]

* For those of you who are NEW to this blog, or NEW to ‘Doing Things Differently™’ you can find out HOW and WHY “DTD” began simply by clicking HERE. *

‘Once Upon A Time’ A Girl Named Meleah wanted to improve the ‘Quality Of Her Life’ so she started ‘Doing Things Differently™’. And then she noticed the ‘Little Changes’ she made every day had a huge impact on her life. And even though Meleah had a few ‘Setbacks’ she kept on forging ‘Ahead’.

After completing ‘The First Four Weeks’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ Meleah stepped up her game by taking things to the ‘Next Level’.  She momentarily took a break to ‘Visit With An Old Friend’ but she continued ‘Doing Things Differently™’ even after things became slightly ‘Boring.’

Meleah completed ‘The Second Month’ of Doing Things Differently™ but she felt like things were too ‘Mundane’. So, she started ‘Doing Things Differently™’ with a little more ‘Intensity’. And then she got ‘Injured’. As such, sadly, she was forced to take ‘Time Off’ from DTD.

Meleah was temporarily given ‘Medical Clearance’ and she was able to Proceed withDoing Things Differently™’- So she started all overAgain’. And even though she was ‘Mad Crazy Busy’ she managed to Maintain DTD.

ONWARD!

———————————————————————————–

Monday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Five’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D75/DTD] started sharply at 9am. Meleah had to get up that early because she had a lot of things to do!

But first, she put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the first day, for the third week in a row. And when she came home, rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the first day, for the third week in a row.

She spent the afternoon ‘Food Shopping’ with her mother and ventured out to ‘Three Different Stores’, in search of finding all of the ‘Items’ on their ‘List’. At one point a ‘Frustrated’ Meleah felt as if she was on a ‘Scavenger Hunt’ and one that had ‘Gone Awry’. Thankfully, they made it home with everything in tact just before the sunset.

That evening Meleah made her famous ‘Internet Rounds’ while commenting/reading all of her ‘Favorite Blogs’.

* And then with one ‘Disturbing Phone Call’ everything in Meleah’s world changed. [But, more on that later in this post.]

Tuesday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Six’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D76/DTD] also began at 9am. The weather was cold, rainy, windy and ‘Absolutely Miserable’. So, Meleah decided NOT to put on her ‘Outfit’ or go ‘Outside’.

Instead, she stayed ‘Inside’ to watch a ‘Law and Order Marathon’ while wearing her ‘Pajamas’. Meleah gave herself a facial and a pedicure, after she finished all of the laundry and cleaned her ‘Living Quarters’ to ‘Immaculate Conditions’ because even though Meleah is ‘Doing Things Differently’ she ‘Firmly Believes’ ‘Certain Things’ should ‘Never Change’.

Wednesday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Seven’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D77/DTD] started at 4:45am.

Seriously.

4:45am.

Why?

Because Meleah was ‘Playing’ in her very firstGolf Outing’ with her BFF ‘Amy The Bartender’ and ‘The Mayor’s Wife’. [Well, not really ‘The Mayor’s Wife’. That’s just an inside joke. Sorry people.]

Unfortunately, the ‘Totally Super Amazing Golf Course’ was located very, very, very, far, far, far, away. And they all had to wake up that early just for ‘Traveling Time’. But Meleah will tell you ‘All About That’ on another day, and in another blog post.

* Sadly, after having ‘The Best Day Ever’,  Meleah received even more ‘Troubling News’. [More later in this post.]

Thursday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Eight’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D78/DTD] started at 8am. But, Meleah simply couldn’t put on her ‘Outfit’ and she definitely couldn’t go ‘Outside’. She was incredibly sore from the ‘Golf Outing’ the day before.  She spent the day helping her mother ‘Take Care’ of ‘Elderly Family Members’ before climbing into bed to recover from ‘Crippling Exhaustion’.

Friday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Nine’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D79/DTD] began at 8am. Meleah and her Mother spent the morning together discussing ‘Urgent Family Medical Issues’, scheduling ‘Doctors Appointments’ and having ‘Serious Conversations’ They never did find the time to put on their ‘Outfits’ or go ‘Outside’.

That evening, after she ‘Fulfilled’ all of her ‘Obligations’ Meleah decided she needed to take a ‘Break From Reality’ so she went to KHCC to visit her best friend ‘ATB’ while uploading, editing, and captioning, over 300+ photos.

Saturday, otherwise known as ‘Day Eighty of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D80/DTD] kicked off at 9am. Meleah couldn’t find the ‘Motivation’ to put on her ‘Outfit’, but she did spend the day ‘Outside’. Meleah enjoyed ‘Quality Family Time‘ with her brother Abercrombie, her nephew MDW, her son JCH, her father Tony Bennett, and her mother Pammie.

Sunday, otherwise known as ‘Day Eighty-One of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D81/DTD] began at 9am. And Meleah decided to post this blog right away instead of doing anything else. She may or may not put on her ‘Outfit’ and go ‘Outside’ later in the day – because a really good walk just might be exactly what she needs.

———————————————————————————–

*** On a personal note:***

I haven’t been around online very much, nor was I focused on ‘Doing Things Differently’ because I was too busy helping my parents, and fighting off tears, since BOTH of my Grandparents suffered ‘Strokes’.

Gramma Ev’ [My Father’s Mother] had her Stroke, on Monday May 17th.

[Gramma Evelyn has since been moved to a ‘Rehab Facility’ and she has been diligently working on regaining her ‘Cognitive Skills’. I have ‘High Hopes’ and I am almost ‘Confident’ that ‘Gramma Evelyn’ will be cursing and telling people off in no time. But it’s just way too soon to tell.]

Poppa Sye’ [My Mother’s Father] had his Stroke not more than 24 hours later, somewhere between Tuesday & Wednesday.

[We still aren’t sure about the ‘Extent’ of the ‘Damage’ and ‘Further Testing’ is required. Honestly? I think Poppa Sye is getting worse with each passing day. And every time I hear him speak, a little piece of my heart breaks. The left side of his face is paralyzed, and his speech is incredibly slurred.]

Needless to say it’s been a ‘Tremendously Stressful’ and ‘Emotionally Draining’ time for my entire Family.

I need to ask all of YOU to please continue saying little prayers and sending healing energy out to both Poppa Sye and Gramma Ev because they could use all of the prayers they can get.

Thank you.

Tina Fey, Liz Lemon

I am partial when it comes to ‘All Things’ Tina Fey. Because as far as I am concerned, I could watching still frames of her facial expressions on a continual loop and laugh all day. She’s smart. She’s beautiful. She’s hilarious. She’s cutting edge. She is totally-super-awesome.

And, she is my hero.

The End.

I’ve loved her since she started working on SNL.

She was ‘The First Woman’ in the history of Saturday Night Live to be promoted to the position of head writer in 1999.

And of course she was absolutely brilliant when she played the role of Sarah Palin.

Seriously.

I also think Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are The Female Dream Team of Comedy, because they had me laughing for Two Whole Hours during  this movie.

But….

I have to say, that my FAVORITE role that Tina Fey plays? Has to be Liz Lemon.

I live to watch her on Thursday nights co-staring beside my husband on the NBC television show 30 Rock.

[The role of Liz Lemon, head writer for a challenging live TV show and extreme introvert, played by Tina Fey, delivers non-stop uber relatable content to the viewer. Liz Lemon is a frustrated single woman, lacking in social skills. She tries to get the best out of her fellow writers and support the insane cast of actors, all while trying to appease her boss, a meddling pain in the neck network executive, Jack Donaghy, played by Alec Baldwin. Tina Fey displays her smart comedic genius in every episode. You are guaranteed to fall in love with her and the character Liz Lemon.]

So, in light of the fact that today is my favorite female’s birthday, I am going to re-post two stories of my own.

[I am in NO WAY comparing myself to Tina Fey, or her character Liz Lemon, but, I am re-posting these blogs because my friends have often referred to these particular stories as my very own Liz Lemon ‘Moments’ . And I would like to honor my idol Tina Fey.]

* The First Story: The Black Out

With winds gusting in excess of 80 MPH and a terenchal deluge (rainfall: 75 inches of water in less than 15 seconds) a ‘Black Out’ was inevitable. However, being separated from my family and trapped in someone else’s house was not a favorable condition.

First of all, I am a baby. I am not ashamed to admit that I am scared of the dark. And I am a big ole crybaby when it comes to driving during inclement weather. (Or I would have driven home.) But for the reason that I have neglected my ‘best friend’ for at least a month, I would have never been in the situation I am about to discuss.

Yeah. Um.

When you are in a house that does NOT belong to you and yours, in the middle of a black out, and you don’t know where anything is, coupled with an alarm that would not stop ringing sirens, and a dog that would not stop whimpering, it is not exactly a good idea to try and use the bathroom.

Unfortunately for me, I had the urgent ‘gotta go-gotta, go-gotta go right now’ kinda feeling with no clue as to when the house would be illuminated again.

If you add up all of the aforementioned conditions, you can only imagine the kind of disorientation and sweating I started to experience. Disorientation may induce bad decisions, like not asking the host if you can take a candle with you. Instead, I went in to the restroom blindly.

It wasn’t too hard to locate the actual ‘bowl’ but it was a little more difficult to find the ‘paper’. I used my hands to feel around the wall in hopes of not falling off of the bowl. After I did find the paper, I was met with the biggest challenge. Starting a new roll. In the pitch black. This particular roll did not have the little starter flap of paper for one to pull from. No. This roll was sealed shut solid all the way around.

What is a person to do?

1. Claw at the roll violently.

2. Attack the paper until you rip enough to create streamers.

3. Discard the streamers in the area where you presume the trashcan is located.

4. Proceed to dispense a normal amount of paper to finish your reason for being in there.

5. Apologize for the mess you made *later.

*Later = when the lights come back on, and the bathroom looks like this.
(minus Michael Keaton and the small children.)

Lesson?

Do not put off seeing your friends until the last minuet. This way you don’t have to go see them on a day wherein you have been forewarned about the bad weather that is on the horizon.

Or, simply ask for a source of light.

*[Of course the above bathroom entry cannot compare to THIS BATHROOM STORY.]

Anyway……

* The Second Story: Lesson Learnt

Never leave my house without my digital camera ever again.

Even if my camera was old and broken. Even if 9 times out of 10 the picture comes out blurry. And even if my camera used batteries like a prostitute uses condoms. It still would have been really handy to have in my possession when I saw Sanjaya shopping at my local CVS.

Oh alright, so it wasn’t Sanjaya. And, for the record, I don’t even like Sanjaya. Not.Even.A.Little. But I did frantically search my purse for said crappy digital camera when the Sanjaya look-a-like-could-have-been-practically-identical-twin strolled into the store.

After shoving my hand violently around my gigantic purse for a solid 8 minuets, I still couldn’t locate my camera. That’s when I realized I had left it at home to download other photos.

As I wondered aimlessly into the parking lot, I was lost in deep thought about how funny that post would have been. I was disappointed for missing the perfect opportunity to hold a ‘Spontaneous’ Sanjaya look a like contest.

Distracted, preoccupied, and contemplating the words I would have used in my ‘almost post’ I began unloading the bags from my shopping cart into THE WRONG CAR.

Um. Yeah.

I was too busy cussing myself out for being ill prepared, that I wasn’t even aware I was putting my bags, into someone else’s car.

(Because, you know, Hyundai’s and Nissan’s look so much alike. Right?)

The only clue to the situation I had gotten myself into was how clean the back seat of the wrong car was. The back seat of my car is filled with empty coffee cups, cigarette packs, 15 pairs of shoes…all of which I did not see as I was neatly placing bags into… ‘The Wrong Car’.

First I panicked. Then I rapidly scanned the parking lot for any onlooker, or the possible owner of the car. Thankfully no one saw me as I quickly removed the bags…and thankfully I wasn’t busted.

Lesson Learnt?

There may be a celebrity look a like at any given time, in any given store. Never leave my house without my digital camera ever again. I might end up in jail for a really embarrassing misunderstanding, one that infers to unlawful entry or even burglary.

‘Doing Things Differently™’ My Week In Review – Part Fifteen

[Week 15: May 10th-16th]

During the ‘Fourth Month’ Meleah was given ‘Medical Clearance’ and she was able to Proceed withDoing Things Differently™’- So she started all overAgain’.

ONWARD!

Monday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Eight’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D68/DTD] began poorly when she was awoken by ‘Incessant Telephone Ringing’. Apparently, Meleah’s MOTHER locked herself out of her car. Now, Meleah must REALLY love her mom because she raced out of the house on a ‘Rescue Mission’ and without having any coffee.

[insert * shock heard round the world.*]

But Meleah’s whole day was ‘Thrown Off Schedule’ from that moment on. She was ‘Mad Crazy Busy’ preparing, and shopping, and organizing, and cleaning, and getting ‘All Things Ready’ for her son’s birthday. She NEVER did find ‘The Time’ to put on her ‘Outfit’ or go ‘Outside’.

Tuesday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Nine’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D69/DTD] started at the ‘Horrifying Hour’ of 6am. And by 6am, she really means 6am. In fact, Meleah was so worried about waking up that early, she never went to sleep. Instead, she stayed up ALL NIGHT working on her book. She didn’t go to bed until after she dropped her son off at school for ‘The Very Last’ – ‘Play Practice’.

That afternoon, after only a mere ‘Three Hours’ of ‘Unconsciousness’, a ‘Delirious’ Meleah really DTD when she agreed to take someone else’s ‘Teenage Daughter’ out for some ‘Driving Practice’. And she’s not taking about driving ‘Golf Balls’. She’s talking about driving an ‘Actual Vehicle’. Much to Meleah’s surprise she was ‘Highly Impressed’ with her ‘Tribal Sister’s Daughters’ – ‘Excellent Driving Skillz’.

And when she came home, Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the first day, for the second week in a row. And rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the first day, for the second week in a row.

After taking her son to ‘Guitar Lessons’, eating a quick dinner, and checking her emails, Meleah went to bed precisely at Midnight, because she was absolutely exhausted.

Wednesday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D70/DTD] Meleah sprung out of bed precisely at Noon. And, after 12 ‘Consecutive Hours’ of ‘Slumber’, Meleah felt awesome. She immediately decided to play ‘Catch Up’ with her friends while making her famous ‘Internet Rounds’ by reading/commenting on her ‘Favorite Blogs’ before she even brushed her teeth.

That afternoon, Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the second day in a row, for the second week in a row. And when she came home, rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the second day in a row, for the second week in a row.

That evening, Meleah attended the ‘Much Anticipated’ and ‘Long Awaited’ – ‘Opening Night’ for her son’s ‘School Play’. After driving her son back and forth to school ‘Every Day’ for ‘One Too Many Days In A Row’, she would finally get to ‘Witness’ her son’s ‘Performance’ as ‘Grandpa Joe’.
But that’s another blog post for another day.

[Don’t worry Ronnie C! I promise to include the photos you requested!]

Thursday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-One’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D71/DTD] began at 11:30 am. Before Meleah became side tracked, she put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the third day in a row, for the second week in a row. And when she came home, rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the third day in a row, for the second week in a row.

And then she spent ‘The Rest Of The Day’ at ‘KHCC’ with her ‘BFF ATB’ until it was time for her son’s ‘School Play’, for the second night – in a row. Which she happily attended, like the ‘Proud Parent’ that she is.

[Again, there will be more on ‘JCH’s School Play’ in another blog post.]

Friday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Two’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D72/DTD] kicked off at 10:30 am. And it was ‘Wicked Hot’ outside. Meleah really didn’t WANT to put on her ‘Outfit’ or go ‘Outside’, because the air was ‘Absolutely Stifling’. But then she remembered how just badly she feels when she ‘Skips A Day’.

So, a ‘Reluctant’ Meleah, put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the fourth day in a row, for the second week in a row. And when she came home, rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the fourth day in a row, for the second week in a row.

That evening Meleah planned on attending ‘The Last Night’ of her son’s ‘School Play’ even though she had already practically memorized ‘Every Line’. But while she was ‘Getting Ready’ she felt the all too familiar onset of her ‘Food Allergies’ kicking in. And it was the kind of ‘Food Allergy Reaction’ that makes Meleah ‘Beg For Mercy’.

Sometimes Meleah is able to ‘Forget’ just how ‘Hypersensitive’ she is to ‘Basic Essentials’ in life such as ‘Food’. But with an ‘Extensive List’ like ‘THIS’ she REALLY needs to ‘Pay More Attention’ to what she’s eating, especially on ‘Important Days’.

Meleah could write yet another ‘All-Embracing Post’ wherein she tries to make light of her ‘Situation’ but she’s already done THAT. And she’s done that several times. And, anyone who really knows Meleah? Already knows just how badly she HATES having these ‘Annoying Medical Conditions’.

Needless to say, Meleah was ‘Sorely Disappointed’ when she was FORCED to MISS ‘Closing Night’ of her son’s ‘School Play’.

[Stoopit Food Allergies * ruining everything *]

Saturday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Three’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D73/DTD] was not very good or productive. Meleah spent the whole day, recovering from a ‘Benadryl Hangover’. Fortunately, her brother ‘Abercrombie’ came down from ‘Somewhere Pennsylvania’ to hang out with her. And they laughed, and laughed and laughed. But Meleah does not want to bore you with tales of their ‘Inside Jokes’.

Sunday, otherwise known as ‘Day Seventy-Four’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D74/DTD] began exactly at 11am. And it was probably one of the most ‘Perfect Days’ she’s seen all year ‘Weather Wise.’ And while she did NOT put on her ‘Outfit’ she did get ‘Dressed’, and she went ‘Outside’ with her friends to ‘Play Golf’. But more on THAT another day too.

And that’s a wrap.

* PS: Has anyone else been unusually and or EXTREMELY busy this month? Is it just me, or have there simply not been enough hours in the day lately?

Happy 14th Birthday JCH!

As some of you already know my one and only child  JCH turned 14 years old this past Monday. I simply cannot get over the fact that he’s growing up so fast. And, I really can’t even think about him starting high school this coming September. Honestly, I don’t know where all the time goes.

Every year I have tried to make a big deal about my son’s birthday. In fact, I usually let him stay home from school so he and I can spend that day doing something fun together. I’ve thrown outrageous parties for him. And, I’ve been fortunate enough in the past to have been able to afford most of the presents he’s ever wanted. But as he’s gotten older, I’ve also given him things that were more ‘meaningful’ and less ‘materialistic.’

When my son turned 12, I wrote him THIS LETTER. [*warning: may induce tears*]

And when he turned 13, I made him THIS VIDEO.

[Seriously people, take your time to click on the links. I’ll still be waiting right here for you to come back!]

This year, I wasn’t exactly sure what I could possibly do for JCH to make his birthday special.

I tell my son that he is loved every singe day, so that wouldn’t be anything new.  He couldn’t take the day off from school as JCH is a ‘Lead Character’ in this years ‘Production’ of ‘Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory’, and he had ‘Dress Rehearsals’ until 9pm.  And I promised my son that I would not *embarrass* him or *surprise* him this year with another ‘Sappy Letter’ or another ‘Sappy Video’. [Of course that did NOT stop me from buying him another ‘Sappy Birthday Card’.]

Thankfully, we do have one particular ‘Family Tradition’ and I was determined to go all out. When it’s someone’s birthday around here, they get to decide what they want to have for dinner, and they don’t have to cook or clean up. All my son wanted for his birthday was to have ‘Crab Legs’. And oh boy, did he have a lot of Crab Legs.

Now, as most of you also know, there is always someone in my family that will come along and make the whole night memorable. And this time, it was my brother ‘Abercrombie‘ who made my son laugh harder than I have ever seen him laugh in his whole life.

Why is that you ask?

Well let’s take a look.

Shall we?

First, this is the *birthday* card that my brother bought for my son.

And that? Was funny enough.

Especially considering it’s intended for a 13 year old girl.

But when my son opened it up and started to read it?

That’s when JCH couldn’t even get the words out in-between hysterical bouts of laughter.

See for yourself!

Ah yes.

Another successful birthday has come and gone.

To My One And Only ‘Boy’ Who Is Practically Already A ‘Man’, Sometimes Referred To As ‘JCH’ And Otherwise Known As ‘Whosteen’ : Happy 14th Birthday.

‘Doing Things Differently™’ My Week In Review – Part Fourteen

[Week 14: May 3rd – 9th ]

Meleah completed ‘The Second Four Weeks’ of Doing Things Differently™ but she felt like things were too ‘Mundane’. So, she started ‘Doing Things Differently™’ with a little more ‘Intensity’. And then she got ‘Injured’. As such, sadly, she was forced to take ‘Time Off’ from DTD. But then she was given ‘Medical Clearance’ and she was able to Proceed with Doing Things Differently™’- again!

ONWARD!

‘Day Sixty-One’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D61/DTD] otherwise known as Monday, began sharply at 10am. But before Meleah could do ANYTHING, she drove directly to the nearest ‘Foot Locker’ and purchased a brand new pair of ‘ASIC Sneakers’. She justified spending $145.00 on herself for two reasons. 1. She’s worked very hard at DTD she decided it was worth investing the money so that she can continue DTD. And, 2. She’s considered it an ‘Early Mother’s Day Present’. Plus, they are absolutely adorable.

That afternoon, Meleah and her mother put on their ‘Outfits’ and they went ‘Outside’. And they walked around the block ‘Six Times In A Row’, for ‘The First Day In A Row’, for ‘The First Week In A Row’ – again.

Meleah immediately felt a ‘Noticeable Difference’ within the first ‘Few Steps’ as her new sneakers hugged and cradled her feet with ‘Comfort and Support’. So much so that Meleah was ‘Almost Tempted’ to put her shoes to the ‘The Ultimate Test’. Especially since her ‘Shin Splints’ were no longer an ‘Issue’. But then Meleah remembered she’s NOT supposed to ‘Push Herself’ too hard, too fast.

Half way through ‘The Third Lap’, Meleah could feel ‘The Onset’ of her ‘Annoying Allergies’ kicking in. But there was absolutely NO WAY she was going to ‘Throw In The Towel’. So, rather than heading home, she ‘Uncontrollably Sneezed’ her way through ‘The Duration’ of her walk and used the bottom of raggedy t-shirt to wipe the snot running down her face. Because nothing says ‘Sexy’ quite like dried mucus on clothing.

When Meleah came home, she gave in and smoked a cigarette. But then she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’, and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for ‘The First Day In A Row’, for ‘The First Week In A Row’. And HOLY CRAP by the time she was finished, she was really sore.

Meleah spent ‘The Better Part’ of her evening reading through ‘The Rough Draft’ of her ‘Work In Progress’ while thinking about all of the editing that needs to be done. And any time Meleah spends working on her book, is ‘Time Well Spent’.

Tuesday morning, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Two’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D62/DTD] began precisely at 8am. And by 8am, Meleah really means 12:45pm. And no. That’s not necessarily a ‘DTD Victory’. BUT, it’s still OKAY because Meleah ‘Lost Track Of Time’ while working on her book, which means she was ‘In The Zone’ and THAT is a REALLY ‘Good Thing’!

Meleah spent her afternoon making ‘Internet Rounds’ by reading/commenting on all of her ‘Favorite Blogs’ before she had to stop – to pick up her son from his ‘School Play Practice’ for the second day in a row.

Later that same day, Meleah’s Mother wanted to know just ‘How Far’ walking around the block ‘Six Times’ really ‘Equaled’ in actual ‘Distance’. And when Meleah’s Mother found out it was exactly 1.8 miles? That drove Meleah absolutely NUTS. Especially because now she knew if she added just ‘One More Lap’ she would be walking around the block for a total of 2 miles.

Great.

Meleah finally decided to go for her ‘Morning Run’. And by ‘Morning Run’ she really means ‘Afternoon Walk’. She put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’ and she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [now and forever otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the second day in a row, for the first week in a row.

Meleah walked against ‘Hurricane Force Winds’ as she watched ‘Thick Black Clouds’ ‘Take Over The Sky’. After the ‘Sun Disappeared’ Meleah simply ‘Picked Up The Pace.’ And thankfully she did, because in doing so she ‘Narrowly Escaped’ suffering ‘The Wrath’ of a ‘Torrential Down-Pour’ but one that only lasted for all of ‘Ten Seconds’.

And when she came home rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the second day in a row, for the first week in a row.

That evening, after dinner with her family, and a visit to a friend’s house, Meleah came home and settled in to get some ‘Real Writing’ done! She is determined to ‘Stay On Track’ this time!

Wednesday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Three’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D63/DTD] also started a lot later than usual. Meleah didn’t get out of bed until 12:03pm. Meleah is beginning to realize that if she’s going to ‘Stay Up All Night Writing’, she is going to have to ‘Stop’ trying to be a ‘Day Person’ and ‘Switch Back’ to being more of a ‘Night Person’ as there are FAR TOO MANY DISTRACTIONS for Meleah to focus on creating ‘Sentences of Substance’ ‘During The Day Time’.

[I’m looking at YOU Facebook.]

Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [now and forever otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the third day in a row, for the first week in a row. And then rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the third day in a row, for the first week in a row.

That afternoon, Meleah went to her ‘Doctors Appointment’. The very ‘Doctors Appointment’ she’s been dreading. Especially since last weeks ‘Ultrasound Results’ came back ‘Inconclusive’ with respects to suspected ‘Blood Clots’. Now, even though Meleah is NO LONGER suffering from ‘Crippling Shin Splints’ EVERY TIME she comes back from her walk, the ‘Mysterious Lumps’ on her ‘Right Shin’ are still ‘Quite Visible’. Therefore, her Doctor has referred her to a ‘Vascular Surgeon.’

And Meleah does NOT like the sound of THAT.

Not. One. Little. Bit.

Because Meleah really doesn’t like to think about veins, or blood, or surgeons, or blood-clot-filled-veins that may require surgery.

EVER.

Those kinds of ‘Medical Terms’ tend to make her feel ‘Lightheaded’ and ‘Queasy’.

Thankfully Meleah couldn’t dwell too much on the matter because she was far too busy picking up her son from ‘School Play Practice’ for the third day in a row, and drove him ‘Back And Fourth’ to ‘Guitar Lessons’ for the fifth week in a row.

Thursday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Four’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D64/DTD], started at 10:30 am. Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [now and forever otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the forth day in a row, for the first week in a row. And when she came home rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the fourth day in a row, for the first week in a row.

That evening, after picking up her son from his ‘School Play Practice’ for the fourth day in a row, Meleah really ‘DTD’ when she did ‘NOT’ visit ‘Amy The Bartender’ at KHCC. Especially since Meleah ALWAYS goes to KHCC, on Thursdays. Instead, she went out with a ‘Different Friend’ to celebrate a ‘43rd Birthday’, at a ‘Lovely Restaurant’ in Princeton. And she had a wonderful time.

Friday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Five’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D65/DTD], began at 10:30am. Meleah sprung out of bed, eager to ‘Face The Day’. She put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [now and forever otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the fifth day in a row, for the first week in a row. And then rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the fifth day in a row, for the first week in a row.

That afternoon, Meleah was thrilled she would NOT have to pick up her son from his ‘School Play Practice’ for the fifth day in a row, because her son left for the weekend to visit his father. So, Meleah went to visit her ‘Very Best Friend’, also known as ‘Amy The Bartender’ at her local ‘Country Club’.

Meleah was ‘Pleasantly Surprised’ to see that ‘KHCC’ also started ‘DTD’ by keeping the kitchen ‘OPEN’ later on Friday and Saturday Nights. And they are now providing ‘New Items’ on the ‘Menu’. Meleah wanted to ‘Support’ the ‘Changes’ at her ‘Favorite Place’ so, she ended up ordering the ‘Chipolte Chicken Sandwich’ instead of her usual ‘Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger’. And it was delicious.

Saturday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Six’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D66/DTD], began at 12:30pm. Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [now and forever otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the sixth day in a row, for the first week in a row. And then rather than smoking a cigarette she did 100 ‘Stomach Crunches’ and 50 ‘Push Ups’ for the sixth day in a row, for the first week in a row.

That evening, after Meleah finished all of her shopping, she went out with her ‘Different Friend’ to visit with an ‘Old Friend’ [and by ‘Old Friend’ she just means some one that she had known since she was 18 years old] and they joined yet ‘Another Friend’ to embark upon ‘Game Night.’

Meleah never laughed so hard while playing the game ‘Taboo’. Her ‘Competitive Nature’ literally ‘Took Over’ as soon as the teams were divided into ‘Boys Against Girls’. Honestly, Meleah will never know how the hell she ever guessed the clues for ‘Katie Courick’ CORRECTLY. Especially since she doesn’t even watch ‘The News’ unless it’s TMZ.

At one time during the game the teams were practically ‘Neck And Neck’. And by that, Meleah really means the ‘Boys’ needed a full ‘20 Points’ simply to reach the score of ZERO.

Seriously.

But then [with some ‘Assistance’ from the ‘Girls’] the ‘Boys’ began to ‘Catch Up’. Just as the game was about to reach ‘Nail Bitter Intensity’, things took yet another ‘Drastic Turn’. And by THAT, Meleah really means: ‘The Girls’ – ‘Totally Slaughtered’ – ‘The Boys’.

Final Score?
Girls +18. Boys – 2.
Best. Game Night. Ever.

Sunday, otherwise known as ‘Day Sixty-Seven’ of ‘Doing Things Differently™’ or [D67/DTD], or MOTHERS DAY, started at 11:30am. Meleah awoke to a ‘Bright’ and ‘Sunny’ day. Meleah put on her ‘Outfit’ and she went ‘Outside’. And she walked around the block SEVEN TIMES In A Row [now and forever otherwise known as ‘Two Miles’] for the seventh day in a row, for the first week in a row. But when she came home she had ‘No Desire’ to do ANY ‘Sit-Ups’ or ‘Push-Ups’.

That afternoon, after spending ‘Quality Time’ with her own mother [who she happens to see every single day], Meleah went out for a ‘Round Of Golf’ with some of her girlfriends that are also ‘Fellow Mother’s’. They enjoyed a ‘Glorious Day’ despite the ‘Incessant-Obnoxious-And-Ever-So-Unnecessary-Extreme-Wind-Conditions.’ Followed by an almost ‘All Female’ ‘Awesome Dinner’ at her ‘Tribal Sister’s’ house.

And when she came home she wrote this blog post, right before she totally collapsed.

PS: Meleah feels really badly for not being able to keep up with everyone’s blogs last week, as she was insanely busy. Hopefully she will have the time this week!

Random Acts Of Kindness

I am always brought to the brink of tears whenever I hear, read, or see, any stories about ‘Random Acts Of Kindness’. And that’s not just because I am overly sensitive to things like that. Of course other people may not have quite the same reaction as I do. And by other people, I really mean my father.

Case. In. Point.

My Grandfather, Poppa Sye, took his car to be fixed at the local gas station and since he was going to have to wait a while for the repairs to be made, he decided to walk across the highway in order to get to the local restaurant he often frequents.

Sadly, while attempting to ‘Frogger’ his way around the traffic my grandfather fell.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY.

And he hurt himself.

WHEN HE LANDED ON HIS FACE.

Fortunately, he was not injured too badly.

But, an ambulance arrived on the scene and bandaged up his wounds.

When my Grandfather finally made it home safely, this is what he looked like:

You have no idea how upset my mother and I were.

In an effort to calm us down, my father made a joke about my grandfather, by sending out the following email to all of our family members. And the two of them staged the picture to accompany the message

Email:

Just to let you know that I lost my temper with Sye and we had a scuffle. He called me names and pissed me off saying that his food was cold and that I gave him the wrong size fork.  Then he complained that his napkin was not folded the correct way. F -him! I had enough with this old guy.  He had it coming!

* Clearly, I get my wonderful sense of humor from having such a fun family.

Now, here comes the  real story….

Oh, and please keep in mind that Poppa Sye was still walking around IN PUBLIC all bandaged up.

Almost every morning my Grandfather goes to ‘The Same Bagel Shop’. It’s conveniently located right down the street from our house and he likes to get his breakfast there. However one rainy day, the store was really crowded. So, rather than wait in a long line, Poppa Sye grabbed a cup of Hot Chocolate and sat down at a table.

After the Morning Rush slowed down, the woman working the cash register came out from behind the counter to speak with Poppa Sye. The cashier informed Poppa Sye that another Gentleman, who happened to be a ‘Perfect Stranger’ had given her the sum of $40.00 – specifically – to buy my Grandfather whatever he wanted for breakfast. And… And also, to keep the rest of the money as a ‘Running Tab’ to pay for my Grandfather’s meals until the balance was gone.

Awesome, Right?

Well, here’s how the people who live in my household reacted to hearing that news.

When my SON heard that story?

He responded by saying, “That’s Cool. Can I go back to my room now?”

When I heard that story?

I was speechless. And I immediately became teary-eyed and felt a renewed sense of faith in all of humanity.

When my MOTHER heard that story?

She thought it was terrific and wonderful. However, she was convinced ‘The Nice Man’ probably only gave the $40.00 because she thinks her father looks like a ‘Homeless Person’. Especially with all if his ‘Band-Aids’ and such.

But, when my FATHER heard that story?

He asked Poppa Sye if he could borrow his red hat, walking cane, and some ‘Band-Aids’ – because he was going to the Bagel Shop to try and score a Free Meal.

Yep.

That’s My Daddy.

Doing Things Differently™ – My Week In Review [Part Thirteen]

[Week 13: April 26th – May 2nd ]

ONWARD!

After several tests, and a week riddled with anxiety, Meleah finally received ‘Medical Clearance’ from her Doctor’s to ‘Resume’ her new lifestyle. As such, Meleah can finally start ‘Doing Things Differently’ – again! And she can’t wait! In fact, she’s putting on her ‘Outfit’ and heading ‘Outside’ right now!

But, before she races ‘Out The Door’ Meleah would like to take this time to ‘Thank The Internet’ especially all of YOU for reminding her that even while she was unable to physically go ‘Outside’ or put on her ‘Outfit’ she was still VERY MUCH ‘Doing Things Differently’ by maintaining her ‘Positive Energy’ and ‘Optimistic Outlook’.

In fact, Meleah needs to bring ‘Special Attention’ to ‘One Person’ in particular. Because the author of the blog Redhead Ranting, named Jennifer, truly lifted Meleah’s spirits just when she was feeling the most depressed.

Meleah was ‘Absolutely Surprised’ to find THIS BLOG POST written by Jennifer. Meleah read every single word, even though she was blinded with tears in her eyes. And by the tears in her eyes, she really means the salty streaks of gratitude that were running down her cheeks. Meleah *LOVES* Jennifer with her whole heart too! And Meleah cannot thank Jennifer enough for her heartfelt words.

Some of you have told Meleah she’s been a ‘Source Of Inspiration’ to them, and she ‘Blushes’ every single time she hears that. Because it’s ALL OF YOU who have been INSPIRING HER to ‘Keep It Up’! And she cannot even find the words to ‘Properly Express’ her ‘Deep Gratitude’. But please know that she’s never felt so lucky in her whole life to have such an ‘Amazing Network’ of ‘Totally Super Awesome People’ to share this experience with.

Oh, Snap!

One more thing.

Meleah isn’t exactly sure [now that she is practically ‘Starting Over’] if she will be ‘Doing Things Differently’ OR, if she will be ‘Doing Things The Same’ yet? Because after that two week break – she kind of feels like she’s back to ‘Square One’.

So, here is what she would like to propose.

Meleah thinks she should ‘Re-Start’ ‘Doing Things Differently’ at ‘Day One’ by ‘Doing Things Differently’ for THIRTY DAYS IN A ROW. NO MATTER WHAT. And at the conclusion of those ‘Thirty Days’ she will begin the ‘Self-Inflicted-Life-Altering-Challenge’ of ‘Doing Things The Same’.

Yes?

OR…

Can Meleah say that she is continuing ‘Doing Things Differently’ at ‘Day Sixty-One’ [because that’s where she left off BEFORE she was injured.]

Of course after the same ‘Thirty Days’ IN A ROW [NO MATTER WHAT] she will have reached ‘Day-Ninety’. [And, Meleah really thinks that after 90 days of doing ANYTHING, things totally become the same.] And she can’t even wait to start her ‘Self-Inflicted-Life-Altering-Challenge’ of ‘Doing Things The Same’.

So. Basically, this is what Meleah needs to know.

Is she back to ‘Day One’? Or. Is she starting ‘Day Sixty-One’?

[Seriously people, I need to know the answer to that question. I am inviting everyone – to open up on the comments of this blog post and let me know what you think! Whether you comment regularly – or whether you have never left a comment!]

On another note, but on the same topic…

Meleah would sincerely like to ‘Thank’ everyone who has already joined ‘The Doing Things Differently™ Facebook Group Page’. We are at 247 members and growing! * Wooot! *

However, Meleah is always looking to welcome any ‘New Members’. So please keep on spreading the word! Feel free to ‘Invite People’ to join by clicking HERE!
Meleah would also like to take this time to ‘Encourage’ every member to write a POST on the ‘Group Wall’ with regards to just how THEY are DTD in their lives. This way everyone can share ideas. It’s been wonderful to see all of the support everyone has been getting and giving. And, she encourages people to comment on each other’s posts. [Even if you are not ‘Facebook Friends’.] She’s fairly certain the interaction between members will serve as that extra boost of inspiration!

Lastly, Meleah REALLY needs to Thank all of the DTD Members who helped her ‘Live Vicariously’ last week while she was recuperating!

Oh, and please don’t forget to ‘follow the rules’ when posting on ‘The Doing Things Differently™ Facebook Group Page’. And by ‘Rules’ she means all ‘Two Of Them’.

1.) You MUST post on the ‘Doing Things Differently™ Group Wall’ as if you are speaking in the 3rd person.

** [However that rule DOES NOT APPLY when COMMENTING on other people’s wall posts!] ***

2.) You should try to incorporate the use of the initials D.T.D. when sharing/posting on the ‘Doing Things Differently™ Group Wall’. But you don’t really have to.

Remember: Dream Big, But Start Small!

Thank you so much everyone.
And most importantly, ‘HAVE FUN’ while ‘Doing Things Differently™’!!

Family Fun Night – The Bowling Edition

This past Saturday Night, my brother often referred to as ‘Abercrombie’ came down from ‘Somewhere Pennsylvania’ to hang out with me. Just like he’s been doing for the last several weekends In A Row. And, it’s been absolutely wonderful spending so much  ‘Quality Time’ with my beloved ‘Broham’.

My mother also enjoys getting to hang out with her two children.

So much that she offered to ‘Re-create’ some of our ‘Favorite Childhood Memories’ by taking us to ‘Burger King’ followed by some ‘Bowling’.

Now, I could tell you all about our evening in great detail.

But.

I’d rather show you.

[I know most of us don’t have too much free time to sit around all day and watch YouTube movies. So, keep in mind this video moves very quickly. Therefore ya’ll need to pay attention! And, please feel free to have a ‘Hearty Laugh’ at ‘My Expense’!]

Enjoy!

Clearly, my mother and my brother are much better bowlers than I will ever be. And yes. It’s official. I am in fact *special* .
