I should be so lucky. Since thats what I had to PAY in taxes this year. 🙁
I was lucky and did just barely enough withholdings.

I haven’t had to pay additional taxes in years. I think I only wrote the government a check maybe twice. Either way they rap me the rest of the year for all my check is worth.
I don’t think that $600 is free money. It’s my understanding that you have to claim it on next year’s taxes. But I could be wrong.
I feel for you though. Just as long as you got it out of the way. Now you can think about everything else that’s on your plate.

I have No Idea why my taxes were so much this year. For someone who makes Jack Squat I am amazed that I had to pay anything. I also have no idea what that $600.00 check is all about, but you can be damn sure its going right into my savings account, when and if it arrives in the mail.

I am glad its over…but I really hated mailing out those checks today. Ugh.
You are going to do with that check what the government prefers you not do. They want you to spend it. But I’m always about going against the man. So save that dough. I know I will.

Yeah, I owe as well. And I was going to get A LOT back, but now Uncle Sam will just deduct that from whatever I was going to get.
And since the H and I were married last May, I think we filed “married but separate” so we (he…lol) could get something back!
The $600 does not not have to be claimed as income for this year. It is a tax rebate, meaning they are giving some of our own money back to us. The idea being to help jump-start the economy. But what is going to happen is that most people will be like Meleah and put the money in savings for when the other shoe drops and the economic situation really gets bad.
We lucked out and got a small refund this year. I’m sorry you had to pay!

I guess that is the good thing about losing your job, for the first time since I can remember, I actually got a refund this year! I am going to do exactly what you are with that “rebate”, it is going into the savings account, trying to make up some of the lost money for the 6 months of unemployment that nearly cleaned out my savings!
I hear ya. Ouch. At least you don’t have the good old Aussie taxation system to deal with. Apparently we are one of the highest taxed countries in the world. We just got the bill for the company tax on our shop – fifteen grand due at the end of June. I nearly had a stroke. Oh, how I hate the taxman!

Yesterday it was a proverbial slaughterfest at the 8th Ave & 34 St Post Office in Manhattan as the deadline approached, me and a friend just walked by and we had to turn our eyes away… it was… Tax Filing Armageddon. As far as my taxes are concerned they were done pretty early, got something back but my Jeep seems to have developed a Sixth Sense: “I see a refund!” – sure enough, it was time for a break job. P-e-r-f-e-c-t timing.
