One Man’s Trash, Is Another Man’s Treasure [Or, Another Man’s Responsibility To Clean Up!]

I am proud to present my latest ‘Movie’ entitled:

“One Man’s Trash, Is Another Man’s Treasure [Or, Another Man’s Responsibility To Clean Up!]”

Since there are NO WORDS to truly explain the monumental task of removing 70 years worth of property in only 7 days, this short film will clarify and provide all of the details surrounding the Family Crisis I have been dealing with!

And of course it will make you laugh.
Enjoy!

Your dad put on a super show with the “chair dance” … HA HAAAA !!!!!!!

One thing is for sure, no doubt everyone was glad when the task at hand was completed! 😉

Great to see your back !!

  2. Meleah says:

    Speedy!
I am sooo happy to be back in action on The Internet!

    Valerie:
I really appreciate your SINCERE comments [on facebook and here] and I thank you so very much for taking the time to really watch the movie – and support my family the way you did. You are totally super awesome. And I will be taking you up on that ‘matches’ offer the next time I need to deal with something like this! Oh, and thank you for being such a great friend.
    xoxoxo

    Loni:
I haven’t even been updating my Facebook Status with all that I’ve been through over the last 14 days! It’s time for both of us to get active and involved again!

    Bee:
    Thank you!
And Yes, it was very scary!
    🙂

  7. Selma says:

Boy, you guys worked hard. I can’t believe they only gave your cousin 7 days to clear the place out. What a lot of stuff. Your Dad is awesome. So funny. What a fantastic job you did!

  8. agg79 says:

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! (Standing ovation).

Wish I coulda helped ya’ll out.

What a great video & hard working crew. I am amazed at the work ya’ll did in a short period of time and were able to clear out 70 years of accumulation. I am even more in awe of your videography skills. You make one killer video clip.

    Awesome job!

  9. paisley says:

i couldn’t have done it.. you and your mom should be sainted!! and seth isn’t far behind!!! i try to keep my stuff to a minimum and now i know why!!!!

  10. Good god, 7 days to clear out 70 years? Great job though and an even cooler video 😀

  11. LiLu says:

I found that I can’t upload my videos to youtube with Firefox, only in Explorer. Just a thought! And welcome back 🙂

  12. Luragano says:

Wow. If anything is going to motivate me to clean out my basement—THAT video is it! I can’t believe he even sold the place. I mean, who knew there were windows in there????? Well-done all!

  13. Luragano says:

You should have called the freecyclers—they would have had a field day!

  14. Meleah says:

    Selma:
My dad STOLE the show with his final performance at the END of the movie!
    That’s for sure!
    xoxo

    Agg79:
    Aw! YAY!
And Thank you sooooooo very much!
I worked really hard on this movie so it’s wonderful to hear nice things about it! And it’s even more awesome when I know when someone really watched the whole movie! Thanks for appreciating all my hard work in constructing/editing this monster of a movie!

    Paisley:
Oh yeah, I’m all about becoming a minimalist right about now!
    🙂

    Nick:
    Thanks!

    LiLu:
I usually can upload all my other videos to YouTube w/ Firefox, but the reason I couldn’t upload this particular movie – is because its over 10 minutes long! It’s 12 minutes long! Apparently you can’t upload any video longer than 10 minutes in YouTube. [which I think is stupid!]

    Luragano:
My cousin did NOT sell the place. His parents did while they were still living in it. And that caused a world of drama for us after they passed. Hey…what are freecyclers? We needed all the help we could get!

  15. Barbara says:

That was so well done! I loved your music choices and captions. HOLY MOLY there was a lot of stuff in that house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved your dad in the fur jacket and you jumping on the bed in the RS T-shirt. Its kind of like a film about teamwork and also about the COOL STUFF you might find buried in all the junk!!!

  16. Welcome back! SO GLAD you’re feeling better. I had seen the pictures, but the music was a fantastic addition!

  17. Meleah says:

    Barbara:
You are so kind! Thank you.
I can’t believe I used THREE WHOLE SONGS for this movie compilation!
Im glad we did find some cool stuff too. It was a lot of trash to shift through to get to the cool items!

    CuteElla:
And setting things on fire and throwing things out windows was also a nice addition. I hope you saw that part?

  18. Leeuna says:

Where were all you guys last week? The husband and I just bought a commercial building for his contracting business and it was packed with junk! We have made a dent in the first floor’s contents but the basement is still packed full. yikes! I don’t know if we’ll be ready to open up by Spring.

Love the Norman Rockwell painting. Hope you kept that. Great video. 🙂

  19. moooooog35 says:

Nice shot of the box filled with 40 bottles of prescription medication.

Instead of moving him, maybe you should have done an intervention.

  20. oh my! That was a lot of STUFF. You poor dear. Did you rest for at least 7 days after completion of the cleaning/packing?! You’ve got talent on these videos. I loved reading the commentary!

  21. Meleah says:

    Leeuna:
    Ummm…
“Where were all you guys last week?”
The OPENING credits tell you where I was.
    So…Yeah.

    Moog35:

Well, since he is DEAD that wouldn’t be a very good intervention.

    Heather oneshotbeyond :

Yeah, um…my post clearly states that after I did THIS for seven days, then I slept for seven days.

    Side bar:
I think after some of these comments I need to revise my post…

  22. SoLow says:

Did it have to be JACKSON??? That’s a FAN-F’ING-TASTIC video with hilarious comments, but can I coreograph the next one? I’m thinking Pantera & Slayer would have been much better audio… 😉

  23. Beth says:

That was totally overwhelming, it has wreaked chaos in my semi-OCD neat freak mind! My first thought was if I had walked into that, I would have plopped down and cried at the sheer prospect of having to deal with it all. Kudos to you and the team, job well done and great video!

  24. Jay says:

Wow… that puts my little garage sort-out to shame, doesn’t it? Our skip looks positively tiny, next to your forty-footer! LOL!

That is an AMAZING amount of stuff to sort through. I hope you saved and sold the stuff that was worth something. When my parents-in-law moved into sheltered accommodation, they just left a lot of their stuff in the house – and they had nothing like the stuff you had to deal with. The family who bought the house sorted and sold, and were able to buy their airfares back to India on the proceeds!

Well done, you lot! Your Dad is a handsome dude, by the way, and your Mom looks a lot of fun! They both do! 😀

  25. moooooog35 says:

    Wow.

I had no idea he was dead.

See? This just goes to show you how little I pay attention when there aren’t boobs in the movie.

    By the way…

Now do you feel guilty about NOT doing the Intervention sooner?

  26. Meleah says:

    SoLow:
Sure. When you learn how to edit movies like this, you too can add whatever sound track you like! And THANK YOU for watching the WHOLE movie! And thanks for that awesome compliment!
    You rule
    xoxo
    🙂

    Beth:
By the and of the movie your OCD should have calmed down!
Especially when you see just how CLEAN we got the house!

    Jay:
Now that everything is OUT of the house, my cousin has the time to sift through each box, one at a time, and he has to figure out what IS and what is NOT of any value. That’s another huge project we have to look forward too!

    Moog35:
But wait! There ARE boobs in this movie!
Are you sure you watched it from beginning to end?

  27. Random Magus says:

Hey – I couldn’t access the video from here but watched it on Facebook. That looked like a lot of work I especially enjoyed the part where you guys threw the cupboard out…
and you are awesome at movie making I am totally impressed!!!!

  28. Darrin says:

HO… LEE…. CRAP!!! That makes me dizzy just watching it!! Nice video. Very entertaining!!

  29. Meleah says:

    Amber!
    OMG!
    Welcome back to blogging.
My god woman it’s been YEARS since I’ve heard from you via blog comment!
[Thank god we’ve kept in touch via Facebook.]
And thank you for watching my movie! I worked very hard on the editing.
Ill be right over to your blog!
    xoxoxo

    Darrin:
Heh! It was quite an experience. And that’s why I had to make it into a movie! I told you, there are NO WORDS for this sort of situation!

  30. donna says:

I would have ran away, but you stayed and saw the value of making a movie out of a mountain. Loved it. Thanks for sharing that Ms. M! Amazing how much “stuff” we really have.
    Great tunes too.

  31. I watched this on facebook and it was just as funny seeing it here again! Great job, Meleah!

  32. Oscar says:

Meleah – you are da bomb! I love your movies and captions!!! What a job!

Lemme know if you need help!

    I’ll bring the beer

  33. Meleah says:

    Donna:
Thank you so much! I did my best to make a tragic situation mildly funny!
    xoxo

    Marty:
    Thank you!
    🙂

    Oscar:
Oh man, where were you a week ago!
We sure could have used the help!
Its all finished now! Everything is out of the house and in storage
and we have no idea how we friggen pulled THAT off!

  34. Why didn’t you go on a treasure hunt for the items you wanted to keep and let http://www.freecycle.org recycle the junk?

  35. tesco says:

It cost some pretty important “alone” time but it was worth it. 🙂

  36. Meleah says:

    MMP:
We did have some salvage people come and we did have good will come, [that’s in the movie].

However, there was too much stuff to decipher what was worth keeping and what was worth tossing. It was of more importance to get everything OUT of the house.

And now, we get to go through every box one by one to figure out: what is of actual value, what is of sentimental value, what gets shipped to the Museum, and what can be recycled / donated.

Someone in my family [who has long since passed away] was / and is a very famous artist with a permanent spot in The Smithsonian and at MOMA, and just finding those hand drawn prints and never before seen slides, was a real trip. The Museums are very interested in those.

But THEY were mixed in with garbage. So, we literally had no choice but to go through every drawer, every cabinet, every room, every scrap of paper, ect. It was total mayhem for a week.

    🙂

    Tesco:
    Wow. Welcome back!

  37. terri says:

Ok, I’ll admit right now that I didn’t watch the whole thing (as I am desperately trying to catch up on 300-some unread posts) but the part that I did see was enough to convince me to start cleaning out my STUFF right now! I do NOT want to leave my kids mass quantities of stuff to clean up after I’m gone.

  38. Ricardo says:

Yeah that’s enough to make ANYONE collapse. No thank you. My anxiety got worked up just by watching the video. But you got the job done. Great movie.

I find Youtube to be very user unfriendly for my videos also. I gave up on them.

  39. OLLY says:

    THAT IS WILD!
    LOVE YA

  40. Meleah says:

    Terri:
Thank you for being HONEST about it!
    And Welcome home honey.
I sure have missed you, but your vacation looked and sounded awesome!

    Ricardo:
    Thanks for watching my movie!
I love Youtube, but I can only upload videos UNDER ten minutes.
This movie is 12 minutes! Thus Im calling it a SHORT FILM!
    🙂

    Olly:
I didnt want you to miss that one!
    I love you back.

  41. Harry says:

    Dood!

Long time no see! Thanks for sending this to me and remembering me!
Your dad is still suave, you are still beautiful, and there is a new Discovery channel show called Hoarders. I think you should send them this video!

I wish I lived in Jersey so I could be you buddy!

    🙂

    Harry

  42. Meleah says:

    Harry!
    How could I forget YOU!

You were one of my very first readers 4 years ago!
And I never forgot how much you LOVE my dad.
Considering I think this movie is my best work to date, I HAD to send it to you!

I wish you lived in NJ too.

    xoxoxoxo

  43. chefmom says:

OMG!! That is amazing and scary all at once!!! What a hysterical video! you are so talented. I would have run for the hills at the site of that house!!

  44. Meleah says:

    Chef Mom:

I’ve missed you sofa king much around here!
Thank you for watching my movie. I really appreciate you taking the time like that for me. You are still totally super awesomeness!
    xoxoxoox
