On Writing…

The only thing harder than actually writing my book; is when I have to stop writing my book. Once I get into the zone, words pour out of me like a running faucet. Writing like that can leave me feeling: Raw. Skinless. Armor-less. Defenseless. It’s an incredible experience. I wish it was always like that when it came to writing.

During the week, I find it rather difficult work on my book. By the time I am finished with my ‘To Do List’, it’s already 10pm. I absolutely dread when I see the clock strike the hour where I am forced to turn “it” off and shut “it” down. While I’ve been lying awake at night playing with words and the characters in my head, I haven’t been able to get any of it down on paper. You see, I’ve learned the hard way, that I must to go to bed before midnight in order to be able to function the next day in the office.

As such, I find myself becoming increasingly resentful towards my job. I’ve been angrily blaming ‘The Office’ for getting in the way of being able to take full advantage of The Muse. Especially when I want nothing more than to run with her…where ever she may take me. We all know how fickle and unpredictable she can be.

At least I have this weekend to get ‘buck wild’ on Chapter Four. I can’t wait to pick up, right where I left off.

Oh! Yeah. I almost forgot to mention this little nugget. I am going to do an interview “DJ Bob” from the bar where I used to dance. The last time I saw or spoke to “DJ Bob” has to be a little over 7 years ago? Recently, he happened to find me through myspace.  I will be meeting up with him tonight to interrogate him with seven million questions. It should be very interesting to hear some of the memories he has about me to add to my story.  At first, I questioned weather or not I wanted have any real ‘face time’ with the people from my past, but I figure what better way to deal with it, then to literally FACE IT.

I hope all of you have a most wonderful weekend. I will be visiting ya’ll when I need to take a break from the intensity my book stirs up inside of me.

that resentful thing with the job sailed for me a long time ago. actually work does get in the way of life and i know that’s why i’m always screaming inside.

my bed time is 10, but didn’t make it last night. i know what you mean though. we need our sleep or else, cranky spanky.

get buck wild with your book this weekend. go to the library and write, there are no distractions and maybe no people there either. maybe you can get a digital recorder, did i say that already?

    have a good one Meleah!

  2. moooooog35 says:

I knew someone named “BJ Bob.”

It was a girl, and she was very popular.

  3. paisley says:

well i think only good can come of it.. purging oneself on the page is very cathartic,, and helps me make sense of things as it is clean and concise and can be viewed as a whole instead of in little snippets …

    i am rooting for you… have a great weekend…..

  4. Selma says:

You are going so well on your book. I am so glad for you. Know what you mean about the job. I am over mine. Will you be broadcasting the interview? Have a great writing weekend. XX

  5. Meleah says:

    Valerie:
    Yay. You are 1st again!
This job is crushing my creative soul every day.
I will be fine writing in my house this weekend. The Parents fully support this book and know better than to disrupt me when I am on roll.
    Xxoo

    Moooooooog35:
    I bet she was! Hahahaha

    Paisley:
“very cathartic” is the PERFECT way to desribe how I feel when writing this book.

    Selma:
I am SO OVER this job too.
I will not be broadcasting the interview, but…its funny you should say anything about broadcasting as I am mid-construction of one of my ‘infamous’ ‘movies’. I will be posting that as soon as I am finished with it!! Im plugging along with my book little by little.
    Xxoo

  6. Ingrid says:

I hope you get a lot of material from that interview, Meleah. Write up a storm!

  7. Catscratch says:

Intensity is an amazing feeling!! Let it flow!

  8. Oscar says:

I understand your need for the Muse. I am finding myself thinking of things at the most odd times, then when i get to write, I’ve lost the thought or the feeling I had when I experianced it. Enjoy your weekend!

  9. chefmom says:

Happy writing! Remeber that this is GOOD for you to face these things and get them out. You are a strong woman named Meleah. Consider Jasmine just a character. Have a great weekend!!

  10. Lee says:

Compared to me, you’re a night owl. If I’m not in bed by 9:30 I turn into a pumpkin. Must be another one of the handicaps of being an elderly old fart. Hey, is “buck wild” the same thing as “buck naked?” Inquiring minds want to know!

  11. dawn says:

Don’t you just hate it when you’re in the zone and the reality of life interrupts? It sucks.

  12. Meleah says:

    Ingrid:
I hope so too. I’m sure to get an earful.

    Diva:
When its good? Its really good!

    Oscar:
The Muse comes and goes, so shen she is HERE I want to use her as much as possible. Yanno?

    Chef Mom:
Thanks sweetheart. She’s just a character!
    xxoo
    😉

    Lee:
Buck Wild can mean the same as Buck Naked.
I woud much rather start writing at 10pm thne go to bed! I dont know why, but I do m best work during crazy hours. When I am “old” I will finally be able to live the way my internal clock really works!

    Dawn:
    YES! Excatly My Point!
    xxoo

  13. your real best friend says:

buck wild huh? i hope i can get in there somewhere…!

  14. Yeah, my job gets in the way too. Not in the same way as I’m not writing a book or even tackling any big project. But it gets in the way just the same. Oh, to be independantly wealthy! I figure my chances of winning the lottery are zilch as my best friend won $5 milliion. No joke.

Good luck with the writing and your interview.

  15. Meleah says:

    My Real Best Friend:
Um. Yeah…well unfortunately, DJ BOB can’t met me till (tomorrow) Saturday due to a funeral. So…how about you about YOU meet me @ KHCC tonght? I’m sending you an email. We have a lot of work on THAT MOVIE to do!

    Employee No.3699:
Shut Up. If my BFF won 5mm $ in the lottery, I would flip out.
Thanks for the good luck wishes!

  16. Jen Jen says:

I think you should keep a little recorder next to you at all times so when you think of things you can record the ideas and then write about them later. 🙂

Oh and Miss Meleah…when are you coming for your photoshoot with Mac to add into THAT MOVIE? The Jen R hotel & Photo Studio is open for business.

  17. Sometimes I wish that there were more hours in the day… I’ve found that some of my more creative moments happen at night. But like you, I have to force myself to make it to bed in order to be productive the next day (even coffee doesn’t help).

Anyway, I have a notepad that I use to jot notes on things I’m thinking about writing. (I really don’t want to keep my mac on all day so the notebooks helps). This way, I also don’t lose out on any random ideas that I get.

Anyway, (I’m talking too much…) write, write WRITE! G’luck with the book!

  18. Natural says:

cool, hope you get a lot of work done. i’m really up that early, like 5:30-6:00. i don’t always have to be first, just next. lol

  19. I love that you’re writing it. I know the feeling of the flow. It’s a good one. And how breaking it feels sad. But I was thinking that if you had a little pad and paper or a voice recorder by your bed, you can jot down or record ideas and then get them off your brain so you can go peacefully to sleep. Just an idea. 🙂

Good luck on your interview. Whatever he says about his viewpoint of who you were, can be like little cards of ideas that he places on the table for you to see. You can ponder each one and decide which ones you agree with or own, and which ones you don’t. Voila! You are brave to walk back in time and do this.

  20. hollydolly says:

i know what you mean. i am so annoyed at the ten million things that i have to do before i’m allowed to sit down and write.

i hate the dishes that are two days old
i hate the laundry that has been waiting a week
i hate the dinner that has to be made every damned day
i hate the toys that are strewn all over the house
i hate the husband crap that is strewn all over the house
okay i don’t hate my job but i hate that i have to go EVERY day.

meanwhile, that stuff in my brain… wait… i should go do it NOW!

  21. HollyGL says:

I think this is going to be unbelievably healing for you, Mereb. Wouldn’t it be great if upon seeing DJ Bob again, that old scene feels a lot less intimidating? What I mean is, won’t it be great if in seeing him you realize that the woman you are now is evidence of how much more empowered you have become than even you understood.

  22. Meleah says:

    Jen Jen R:
Thanks for having me over LAST NIGHT. The Photos are awesome. My favorite is the DINNER. I am dying over it!
    xxoo

    Ricardo B:
I keep my MAC on 24-7. Its bad I know. But I am usually ON my Mac 24-7. In fact I am making a little video about just how much I love my Mac, and how and where I am on it all the time with everything I do!

    Valerie:
I love when you are first. Makes my day!
    xxoo

    OhMyLisa:
I do keep pen and paper next to my bed, and sometimes I jot things down in the middle of the night. Of course I cant read my handwriting in the morning. Maybe that voice recorder will be a better idea. I am actually NOT SCARED to see DjBob or do this interview at all. Isn’t that amazing?

    HollyDolly:
I cant stand all of the things that get in the way of my writing. I wish I could lock myself away in Italy for a few months just to WRITE. Oh Well. I just have to learn how to use my time wisely.

    HollyGL:
Absolutely. I am meeting with him tonight.

  23. Momo Fali says:

I love that you’re getting all wrapped up in your writing! I’m so excited for you!

  24. Michael C says:

I hope the writing is going well and you know I feel exactly the same way about my job and my writing!

  25. Meleah says:

    MoMo Fali:
    Thanks woman!!

    Michael C:
I know ya do darling. Working full time and trying to really write, plus blog, plus raising our kids makes it tough to accomplish or follow our dreams.

  26. Hope the meeting went well.

Have you applied for the job at Apple?

  27. Meleah says:

    RMH:
I haven’t applied for a job at the Apple Store. YET. But, I am making a VIDEO about how much I love my Apple Computer!

The Meeting/Interview with DJ Bob was moved AGAIN, until Sunday. Which cuts into my writing time, but its research, so it counts as working on the book as far as I am concerned.
    xxoo
