NaBloPoMo | Day 11: Snow Much Fun

Um…

I’m not really sure what New Jersey did to piss of Mother Nature so badly, but right after Hurricane Sandy, we took another beating when we got slammed with a Nor’easter last Wednesday night.

And this is how we prepared:

[*My cousin Shelly & My Mommy]

And this is what I ate for dinner:

[*Is that a really big squash? Or are you just happy to see me?]

And this is how much snow we received.

[*There is something so absolutely beautiful about the very first snowfall.]

Luckily, we did not lose power again.

And luckily, the roads were completely cleared before 8:00am the next day.

And then, something wonderful happened.

I’ve been waiting for this moment ever since August.

Remember, when this happened?

No.

Okay, I’ll wait for you to refresh your memory.

*cue Jeopardy music*

Remember, now?

Good.

Because otherwise this photo wouldn’t make any sense.

[* I laugh uncontrollably every.single.time.]

Ah, yes.

Sometimes, it’s the little things in life, like watching my crazy No Garbage Neighbor, shovel out his car, with a freaking dustpan, and suddenly, everything seems perfectly normal again – in my corner of the world.

I showed my husband and he said, “What the hell?” As I was laughing because I knew. Oh, my gosh! But, on a sad note, not what you guys needed AT ALL, the snow looked beautiful but the timing was ALL WRONG!

  2. Ron says:

“[*Is that a really big squash? Or are you just happy to see me?]”

    Bwahahahahahahahaha! HILARIOUS!

OMG, I can’t over how much snow you guys got in Jersey!?!? We had some snow mixed with rain, but it didn’t settle on the roads.

Yes, I do remember what happened during that snow storm last year. LOVE that last photo!!!!

  3. Right?!!

    Totes crazy.

And today it’s like 8o degrees.
    And sunny.

    WTF.

  4. We had 13 inches. No joke.

I have a feeling we are in for one hellova winter!

  5. Lucy says:

I know, it is so crazy!!

  6. Ron says:

    OMG…13 inches?!?!?

You’re right, I think we’re in for one hell of a winter too!

  7. Roshan Menon says:

My that’s a big bottle of vodka.

    Love the snow pics, gorgeous.

  8. For serious. I just got back from CVS and I am literally sweating.

  9. That’s how we roll.
That bottle of Goose is bigger than my whole thigh!

    🙂

  10. Lucy says:

Makes no sense and you know, more people are going to get sick with all the crazy weather and stress.

  11. Oh absolutely.
And I’m SURE I will be sick within the next few days.

  12. Lucy says:

With your compromised immune system you need to be extra special careful.

  13. Somehow that last photo puts everything in perspective in the whole scheme of things. Nothing really changes 🙂
So sorry about all that snow! You’ve had it really bad this year.

  14. And the winter season hasn’t even begun!

  15. I know! We still have blue skies and sunshine! Still, we didn’t have a summer at all 🙂

I know this comes at a bad time for you, but I can’t help but be a little jealous. I’d love to have that much snow…. just once. I think it would be fun… just once…to be snowed in… just once… and to have to shovel our way out… just once, of course.
What makes it hard for you is that it’s gonna happen probably way more than ‘just once’, and for that, I’m sorry. Thank goodness you have neighbors that can help you get through these situations — even if it’s through humor. 🙂

  17. territerri says:

Oh my, but that is a hunka-hunka big butternut! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) And that’s also a very large bottle of alcohol your mom and cousin are sporting. Minnesota winter is approaching. I need to refresh my supplies. Alcohol cupboard is looking a little bare!

Yeah, it seems crazy that NJ got a huge snow storm on the heels of a major hurricane. Glad you made it through the snow storm relatively unscathed! And yes, I totally remember the dustpan neighbor! What a nut!

  18. I actually LOVE a good snow storm.

    It’s beautiful and it’s fun.

    🙂

  19. Ahahahahah!

    He really IS a nutcase!

And that bottle of vodka is bigger than my whole thigh.
    It’s insane!

  20. HeSaidHisTelephoneNumberWas911 says:

I nearly fell outta my chair when you put that photo up the other day. And I can still hear you saying. “…with a Freakin’ dustpan!”

  21. I wish you could see my big big BIG smile! First of all, your photos are AWESOME! So beautiful! And your mom is gorgeous – tell her I said that! Then the final dustpan part… I am grinning ear to ear!

  22. Awww. Yay! Thank you, Katherine!

  23. ladyV says:

i knew who he was just by looking at the dust pan and the kind of car he drives. you mentioned it and i remembered

  24. You’re god like that, Val!

  25. Selma says:

LOL. That sqaush is enormous. LOVE THIS POST!!!!

  26. I’ve never seen such a HUGE squash!

  27. agg79 says:

Yeah! Dust pan neighbor survived! Was worried that his dust pan didn’t make the storm and he’d have to get something different. And nice squash you got there.
