FaceBook

When Three People Tell You You’re Drunk, You Fall Down.

My great-grandmother used to say that all the time.

She used to say, “If one person tells you something, it’s easy to ‘blow it off’. If two people tell you something, that might just be a ‘coincidence’. But, if Three People Tell You You’re Drunk, You Fall Down.”

Sage. Advice.

Okay so more than THREE people have told me to sign up for FaceBook. (Especially after all that MySpace drama.) And while my profile page remains on MySpace, I also now have a FaceBook account.

This is how my personal joy of Internet Social Networking begins. On MySpace, I found a ton of my favorite high school people that I never thought I would be reconnected with. And for that, I am a truly grateful.

So now let’s talk about FaceBook. (which BTW I haven’t fully figured out how to use properly.)

Some of the friends I had already found from high school as a result of MySpace, were already on FaceBook

Awesome.

But, I have been looking for ONE high school friend in particular.

For. Years.

And I mean years. (15? at least.) Wouldn’t you know it, a few weeks ago, SHE found ME on FaceBook.

Yes! Way!

After a few emails back and fourth, and an intense game of phone tag, I am thrilled to have long time High School Gal Pal Bettina, BACK IN MY LIFE. (I am secretly incredibly jealous of her amazing beauty, lovely husband, and GRAND lifestyle…but I am genuinely happy for her.)

I am so glad that I have taken my great-grandmother’s advice to heart, and that I listened to the three thousand people who told me to sign up for FaceBook.

  • What? You mean you liked the people you went to HS with? – What a concept!

I should work on networking more, but my only friends on MySpace are real life friends I hang out with. We just use it to send one another videos and whatnot. I joined Facebook and random people “friend” me and then vote me as a hottie and MY PIC ISN’T EVEN ON THE SITE! Unless they are turned on by pink lilies… Anyways, people are weird.

When I joined Facebook and they found a lot of my HS classmates, I hurriedly clicked “DO NOT ADD”. 😀

  • Hhmmm… ok, I shall wait for 3 people to tell me, face to face, about Facebook 🙂

  • I hope you enjoy it. It’s always great to catch up with old friends. Some of my friends are on Facebook and it is amazing how they have managed to catch up with people they hadn’t seen for over 20 years. It’s always a shame to lose touch with people you were really fond of.

  • good for you… i don’t do my space or face book,,, but i hear they are very good for making connections,, as you have proven here… i hope you guys can get together someday or something… as i know the post that comes down the pike after that will be a blast!!!!!!

  • I was never one for social networks. But a friend of mine told me to get into it so I could promote the blog. I don’t go on either one.

Sounds like it has been a great service to you. I’m glad you had the opportunity to reconnect with your friend.

    May you enjoy new memories.

  • I feel like I’m too old to be on there!

  • I have a myspace, a facebook, twitter and a cre8buzz. I think I’m addicted to social networking.

    Jillian:
I love 99.9% of the people I went to HS school with. I went to a rather unconventional boarding HS and as a result of that we became super crazy close.

It was an US against THEM (staff) mentality. Not an Us against Each Other (the way normal HS is).

All of my friends on MySpace or FaceBook ARE my friends in real life, friends from HS, or fellow bloggers that I have come to know over the last two years. 🙂

    The Real Mother Hen:
It is kinda crazy and I am not totally sure how it works really…But if you are looking to find people you may have lost touch with, that place is a good start.

    Selma:
Thats the ONLY reason I have an account on BOTH MySpace and FaceBook

    Paisley:
Well…you have been around this blog long enough to know the CASCADE HS stories (or at least some of them) And you were here when I went to the Cascade book sining. And you remember how intense THAT was.

    Urban:
Its not for everyone. Some people get annoyed and it does generate massive amounts of emails if you dont check DO NOT notify me via follow up emails.

    Momo:
Me too. Fuck it. I am for real too old to be on MySpace, but FaceBook is more ‘our age’ of people.

    Marsha:
    Its fun right!

  • Totally awesome~!!!

  • I’m glad you were able to reconnect and I’m glad you are on Facebook!! I know I’m one of the 3,000 that talked to you about it…
    😉

  • That’s so cool!! It’s great to find old friends. I may just have to check out Facebook…

  • I wish I “got” facebook. I had a myspace account for a little bit a few years ago but the whole thingjust made no sense to me! Keep us posted on this whole facebook thing!

    CatScratch:
    It is a blast!

    Michael C:
Toads. Always looking out for me!

    Chef Mom:
You totally should! And you can Add Me & Michael as FRIENDS xxoo 🙂

    Vannessa:
I am not sure how to use it really…not yet anyway..but I am loving the people that have found me!

  • cmk

While it was never put quite the same way, I always was told if something happened three times, then you best take notice. That advice has served me well. 🙂

  • so glad to hear i’m not the only one to struggle with FB! i know the feeling of finding a long lost friend, it happened to me too, wonderful feeling to know this person has known you forever, we had a ten year break and now we’re back to being BF’s… isn’t that strange?! i’ve known her for 25 years… and i’m 36… amazing i think! enjoy 😉

  • Meleah

    CMK:
That is some kick ass advice! 🙂

    Stef:
That’s like me & my and my BFF Leslie. I have known her for 20+ years and I am 33 years old! Awesome isn’t it! Oh Thank god I am not the only challenged individual when it comes to using FB. I have no clue what the hell I am doing!! BTW: Nice to *meet you*

  • Cool! I’ll have to find you on Facebook and connect with you…and on MySpace. I used to be a MySpace junkie but then I got bored with it. I never really did figure out Facebook, but people find me on there all the time. Good for you for listening to your grandmother’s sage advice!!

  • Danny AKA CBG

Finding old friends is a great feeling ( I think we both know that ) I’m glad you found another one. Feel better soon !!

  • Facebook is a great way to find old friends. I deleted my account cause I was spending too much time there, lol. It was addicting. But if you’re there just to network, you should be just fine.

  • Meleah

    Random Chick:
Sweet! Both my FB & MS pages are listed right in this post. Just click and add me as a friend! xxoo

    Danny:
    Agreed. xxoo

    Rolando:
ha ha ha ha ….thats too funny. Maybe when I figure it out I will be addicted.

  • Facebook, I’m staying far away from it. My wife is totally hooked on it though. She spends hours doing stuff on facebook that it bewilders me … LOL!

  • Arv

wow… You will find the first days on FB very interesting, so much to explore… I will have add you to my FB.

    cheers

  • FB is lots of fun… and highly addictive! 🙂

  • Meleah

    Nick:
    Apparently it is highly addictive?

    Arv:
    Sweet! Add me!! 🙂

    Dawn:
Okay. I signed up….now I just have to figure it out! xxoo

  • I just can’t do facebook, I’m on social networking overload, trying to cut back. I’m afraid if I go there, I will have to maintain there. A school friend found me on MySpace and I have some other friends there, so there I’ll stay. I’ll have to add you as my friend, please, please, please. I mean er um, if you want to. 🙂

  • Meleah

    Valerie/Natural:
Please. I belong to so many sites, for ‘networking’ and the # of emails I receive in a single day as a result is OVERLOAD.

And hell yes! We must add each other as friends.

  • Uh oh, Facebook is one more addiction to keep up with- and of course I love it from experience!

I just choose to ignore all of the poking, sheep throwing, and random quiz-taking and get to cyber-stalk my friends. Oh, and just wait until you discover Scrabulous…

  • Meleah

    Exposed:

I am in the early stages of addiction….but once I know how to use this product I am sure to waste valuable hours of my time over there! xxoo

What is this Scrabulous you speak of?

  • Am actually on my third & fourth installments of profiles n MySpace, first two got blown thanks to some people that just didn’t know how to behave. Vowed to stay away from MS due to those issues and tried Facebook, soon after friends again drew me into MS. It does provide for some useful networking and long-time-no-see friends reconnection.

  • Meleah

    Rog:
Yeah, I am not really active on either MySpace or FaceBook…but I love how I have been able to find and reconnect with people I have missed.
