Random Things

It’s been a while since I sat down to write a real blog post. I think I may have forgotten how this works. Not to mention the fact that this blog recently underwent a huge WordPress upgrade and now my ‘Dashboard’ kind of scares me. I am still trying to learn how to navigate my way around these crazy new features.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about what to write for a few days and I gotta tell ya’ll…

I got nothing.

Nada.

Zip.

Zero.

Zilch.

It’s not very easy to come up with any blog worthy material when all I have been doing is staying home to write my book and cooking dinner for my family. Yeah, you heard me right.

I Have Been Cooking.

A lot.

For some reason domesticity seems to be setting in. I am happy to say that cooking has turned out to be quite the rewarding experience. I had no idea I could make a chicken like this and without incident. It’s a friggen miracle. My family has gone ahead and decided that I am officially “In Charge” of making dinner for everyone on Monday Night.

Yay. Me.

As for my book, it’s moving along. However, as a result of writing, my schedule is completely out of whack. You see, I cannot write during the day whatsoever. There are far too many distractions. I am constantly dealing with a barrage of emails, fielding phone calls, checking homework, abusing Facebook Status Updates and so on. Therefore I have found writing from the hours of 12am – 6am to be the most effective time for me. That is when the world is quiet enough for me to really concentrate. I have been going to bed at 630am when the rest of the world is just starting their day and I sleep until about 1pm. I am still getting almost 7 hours of sleep, but I am starting to feel like a vampire.

I have also discovered music is an incredible instrument when trying to remember that time in my life. I downloaded a ton of the bar music from those days and within the first few notes of a guitar lick my memories became crystal clear. However, Chapter Five has been brutal for me to get down on paper, but I think it’s starting to come together.

Let see.

Is there anything else I can tell you guys?

Oh yeah, there is just one small thing. My girlfriend Suzy who is a substitute teacher decided to set me up on a blind date with one of the Hot Male teachers from her school. And much to my surprise, I had a great time! So, yeah, there is that. But since I don’t want to jinks anything I can’t give you any more details!

Sorry people.

Maybe next week I’ll have something more interesting to regal you with?

I always find it hard to write a post when it’s been even a few days since I’ve written. But you wrote a great post! This is far from boring! So glad you’re able to be productive (and domestic!)

  2. Lance says:

    Hi Meleah,

The chicken looks delish! You’re making me hungry over here!!

And, you DO keep weird hours! But hey, if it works… I get up early for that same reason – early morning hours are good quiet time.

    The date! Awesome!!

  4. I am so glad to hear you are dating again. How hot is hot? Do we really have to wait a week for the hot teacher report…

  5. Ricardo says:

That chicken LOOKS GOOD! You made mu hungry. I am a night writer too. I can’t get creative in the day. Distractions yes but something happens in the night time that changes my thinking creatively for the better. Good luck with the writing.

  6. I cannot wait for Chapter 5, I’m so excited. Just think of it this way, people work the night shift, you one of them. And who knew you could cook ! Love ya !

  7. Meleah says:

    Michelle G:
So.Very.Hot. I am a HUGE FAN of this new dood.

    Ricardo:
    That chicken was insanely delicious.
Oh and it’s all about the night time!

The Girl I Will Bring Home:
I will let you know just as soon as Five is done. Its just the most graphic of all the chapters thus far and I think that is what I am having ‘issues’ with! And yeah, I can just pretend I am working the night shift!

  8. maria says:

cooking?! good for you, girlie! oh i am familiar with those vampire hours. 😉

You are in the writing zone and that is a great thing. That photo of you and Suzy is just gorgeous. It makes me really happy to know you have so many wonderful people around you, supporting you.

I am so glad your book is going well. I think it is fantastic, but I understand how tiring it is to get it all out. You have written so much already. I am really impressed. Great to read a post from you. I miss my daily Meleah Rebeccah!

  10. agg79 says:

Glad to read your update on life. Don’t worry if you feel it is not spicy enough. Even the day-to-day stuff is good fodder to pass along to your fandom. Chicken looks great. New career, perhaps? [Cookin’ with Meleah!]

  11. Meleah says:

    Maria:
These Vampire hours are crazy! But, hopefully it will all be worth it one day!

    Selma:
Suzy is a adorable. We were cracking up b/c we basically had on the same outfit that night!

I REALLY miss posting daily too. Hopefully I can get myself in a routine that will allow enough time to write my book and blog!

    Agg79:
I think I actually LIKE to cook!

  12. moooooog35 says:

Just remember what I told you ’bout keeping da man.

    Even teachers like blow jobs.

This is how I got a passing grade in ‘Statics and Strengths of Materials’ for my Architecture degree.

  16. Oscar says:

    domesticity – there’s a 20 dollar word!

Cooking can be very rewarding. A feel good thing.

Thats a good point – music always reminds me of things – where I first heard it, who is was with, maybe a song a friend liked… Thats interesting!

I often run low on the thoughts. Then i just try and usually some dribble comes out! Hey do lie a lot of people. Put a picture up and tell about it.

    See you soon!

  17. cmk says:

My LIFE has been all about living the vampire hours! There is just SOMETHING about the wee hours of the morning that just call to me. Besides, it makes it SO much easier to watch those damn west coast Wing games. 😉

(HAD to get a hockey reference in there for you. :D)

  18. Meleah says:

I need to get over there and read the rest of Chap. 3 and then Chap 4.

  20. Momo Fali says:

I don’t care what you have to say. No matter what, it’s always great to “hear” your voice.

  26. Diamond says:

I know the feeling. I can’t blog unless the passion for what I”m writing about is there. So, most times when I lack that feeling, I simply don’t blog. Then something great comes along :-).

  27. Meleah says:

    Heather OSB:
The date was great. Cooking has been an excellent experience for me as well. Oh…Okay I will be checking out your blog for a meal idea! Wheeee

    Diamond:
    Isn’t that ALWAYS the way!

  28. SoLow says:

    Meleah!!! Yo!

Just had to drop by for the 1st time in forever. Glad you went on a date, hope it ended “properly” (that would be MY definition of “proper”). 🙂 And I hope you’re doing well overall.

I’ll try to drop back in tonight or later this week to catch up on my reading.

  29. Damn it…now I”m hungry and there’s no food in the house.

As for the writing…heck, some of my creative moments come to me late at night too so I feel ya.

  30. Meleah says:

    SoLow:
So you are ALIVE! My god man I was worried about you!
The date was dandy. I am doing great. Writing A lot.
Hope to talk to you soon.
    🙂

    Ricardo B:
Its all about the silence in the dead of night.
Sorry for making you hungry w/ no food in the house!

  31. You’ve got everything from living like a vampire (I’ve got my own story about that), to a date with a hot guy (your words) to writing your autobiography to “abusing” facebook. And you say you have nothing to report?!

That’s cool, though. I often feel like I’m reaching the end of my ability to blog.

  32. Not boring at all! Cooking eh? Well done :O)

The book’s coming along well, I am enjoying reading it but, like you, I must wait until the early hours to read it ;O)

  33. Meleah says:

    Richard W:
When you put it like that,I guess I have been busy!
    🙂

    Babs:
That’s fine by me, Im just glad you ARE reading it!

  34. I’m just so happy to read that you’re back to writing, cooking, having fun, and dating! That’s so awesome Meleah!

Don’t be too hard on yourself by forcing yourself to write endlessly. Avoid the potential burnt-out. Let your creative juice flow naturally instead. It will all come together.

  35. BobG says:

Sounds like some of the stuff in your life is coming together well; good for you! Don’t worry too much about the blogging; when you’re ready the subjects will come to you. For right now, concentrate on yourself first.

  36. Meleah says:

    RMH:
I am having a good time. And I have been keeping true to my plan of finish One Chapter a week. Its been very hard to do, but worth it. I give myself breaks when I recognize I need them. But, I have also been forcing myself a little to much!

    BobG:
    Roger That.

  37. So, you’re the Jasmine my husband spent his hard earned money on (wink, wink – only kidding)!

Looking forward to reading the finished novel! 🙂

  38. Debo Hobo says:

good to hear you are bouncing back and getting back on the dating scene!!!! good luck and take it slooooooooowwwww…

  39. Meleah says:

    Miss Money Penny:
    He he he he

    Debo HoBo:
It’s nice to be back in the game.
    🙂

  40. Heather says:

FUN! On a blind date! With a hot teacher!

    COOKING! WRITING!

Life is good. And you’re good at it 🙂

  41. If you like my new comment system on Uptown Uncorked I’ll install it for you here and it may solve your problem. Two things to consider a) it wont take Gravatars – to get photos your readers would need to grab a free Disqus account b) you will have to learn another new interface this week 🙂

Meleah fans, head over there and scope it out and let me know here if you like it too, i know Melz loves your opinions. I’ll check back here tomorrow for answers.

  42. AngryMan says:

It’s OK to feel like a vampire — just don’t look like one.

  43. I sounds like you are keeping the same hours as me, except on the other side of the world. You have been doing a fantastic job with you book. The evenings do seem to agree with your creativity. Keep it! 🙂

  44. Meleah says:

    Heather:
    Cant complain.

    Leslie:
I will check it out as soon as I get a chance

    Angry:
    lol

    Colin:

Thank you so much for supporting my book project so much.
    🙂

  45. kellypea says:

Yes, I completely understand the being out of whack. Hence the NADA on my blog. Good for you that you’re cooking. But you knew I’d say that! And I don’t know how you write at night because I’m so done at that point in the day. If I don’t begin first thing, then the opportunity is lost. Too much twitter and email and all the other crap that surrounds me each day. Then, no writing for me. Ugh.

  46. Meleah says:

    Kellypea:
My hours and schedule are crazy these days.
The reason I have to write at night is for the very reasons you said here, in the day time there is way to much activity (twitter, facebook, email, cooking, JCH ect…) But at night? Its so different. I can really get into the zone.
