Employee Of The Month

And here I thought I was the only woman in the world that brought her Lap Top into the bathroom. It’s nice to know that I am not alone.

Not too much else is ‘happening’ around here. Although I have been ‘Working From Home‘ for the last few days. I think that I would be so much better off, if I could operate like this. All. Of. The. Time. While I sort of miss the interaction with ‘other people’ I am loving the amount of work I can get done in a single day within the confines of my own house. I have discovered that I am so much more productive and efficient without all of the usual distractions which normally occur in the office.

Hmm…

I wonder if I can make this a viable option long-term? I know my body would certainly be under a lot less strain and stress if that was case.

Okay, that’s about all I have for you. Time for me to get back to work. I might even try to pick up that dry cleaning today.

    I would do anything to make THAT happen, but it is very doubtful. :(

    I do have discipline when it comes to working from home, but I would be MUCH better at blog posting/reading/commenting and watching TV. :)

    12 hour days? Are So Not For Me. I hate working for an 8 hour day. (but I think I hate the commute the most).

  • I worked from home for the last 5 years of my job. I found that I OVERworked. As soon as my eyes opened, usually at 5-6AM, I dragged the laptop into bed with me, checked with the programmers in India, answered all their testing questions, retested the software and closed issues. By that time, everybody in our offices in Dallas and Petaluma were awake so I started answering their questions and getting my own work done in between. I would stop work at around 6-7pm. That's a 12 hour day. yuk.

    When I finally decided to quit, it was because my insane boss called me and said, "Jack (her husband) and I think you have a second job." WTF? She didn;t realize that her long distance wasn't working on her telephone so when she called me it rang and rang and rang. That meant that I had another job. Freak.

    I agree that working at home is more productive, and I also could run over to the post office or bank, get a load or two of laundry done in between work projects. It was great. But...the people who have to go to the office are jealous of you and can cause problems. And your management usually suspects you of goofing off...no matter how much volume of work you complete.
  • I LOVE working from home, but the discipline is a constant battle. If only I could make blog reading and watching "How I Met Your Mother" and "30 Rock" on demand my job, I would be employee of the month!

    A few days a week is a nice compromise, and keeps you accountable. I hope they go for it!

  • ROFL...funny pic. I have to admit, when I'm home I take my laptop there. Hey I need to check stuff and get things done as efficiently as possible. I'm a busy woman. I see nothing wrong with this picture other than it could be me. Now in public, heck no. Not even a magazine.

  • Yes, you should work from home. Tell them you won't come in again unless they let you work from home. Wait, nevermind, that might not be your best negotiating point.
  • What a wonderful capture... and it kinda reminds me of how I feel at work...lol....

    I understand what you mean about working from home. Not only do you get a lot done, but it takes your mind of why you are stuck at home too. When I lost my shoulder, the first thing I did was link up my laptop to work so that I could keep my mind occupied.

    However, I do suffer from a slight lack of discipline, so I could never work from home on a permanent basis.... everything else would suddenly become more important...and no work would get done.

  • and here all this time I have been dragging this damn desktop in there and having thos wires laying all ove the pplace..seventeen extention cords etc..and I could have just used a laptop..:))))

  • Wow... I don't know if I could work at home. I'd spend the entire day online feeding whatever my current obsession was. Then I'd take "breaks" and watch a lot of TV. I think you have to have some sort of discipline to work at home, which I course, don't posses in any great amount. But maybe once you show how much work you got done at home vs. at the office maybe they might consider changing your schedule or something!!

  • My last Job I was VERY productive working at home. But they would have none of it. Hope you are feeling better.

    Working from home is great. But I feel like I'd be better with a gym at home to do on my lunch hour. This way I can have a productive day.

    That picture reminds me of what I do when I'm on the road for work. I'll take my laptop into every room. Including the bathroom. But it would be sitting behind the toilet. TMI - I know.

    I know! I think Working From Home is the best thing thats ever happened to me...If only I could ALWAYS do this? And only go into the office 1-2 day a week... ??? Hmmm

  • I have asked you over and over to please give me a little privacy when I'm in the bathroom. If you can't respect my wishes then I might have to look into having that restraining order put back into play.
  • There have been MANY studies done, especially in Europe, That people are WAY more productive working from home. There are less interruptions, it's quieter, so you can concentrate more, and you're less stressed. The only reason I know all of this, is that my Dad works for GE healthcare and primarily deals with Europe, and is amazed at how many people he deals with that work from home. It's something the US should really consider. Less cars on the road = less emissions, less road rage, leaves the NJTPK to go F- herself....you get the jist...
